BROWNSBURG, Ind. -- Deputy Jacob Pickett of the Boone County Sheriff's Office was shot and killed in the line of duty last week after a shootout with a suspect during a car chase.Pickett is survived by not only his two young boys and wife, but by his K-9 partner, Brik, who was by his side on the day he was fatally shot.Brik honored his fallen partner at his funeral by stopping, alone, in front of Deputy Pickett's casket. And as a dog would, he wagged his tail, as a final salute to a man with which he had an unbreakable bond.Brik followed a K-9-only procession, going by Deputy Pickett's casket to pay their last respects for a fall comrade.You can watch video of the service in the player above.   731

Brewing beer can be back breaking labor.Every day, while working at Living Waters Brewing in East Nashville, Thomas Becker lifts heavy bags of grain and kegs of beer. He says the constant physical grind is taking a toll on his body.“It hurts. It hurts a lot,” Becker said. “Sometimes I’ve had some days it’s hard just getting into the car after work.”Now, relief might be found right next-door at a HeroWear, a startup that designed an exosuit to literally take weight off people’s backs.“With a simple press of the button, you’re able to engage the assistance,” said Karl Zelik, Ph.D., an engineering professor at Vanderbilt University who is now the chief scientific officer of HeroWear, a new company with a mission of creating exoskeleton technology for everyone.“We’re simply taking advantage of the laws of physics to help reduce some of the strain on your back,” Zelik said of his team’s back-assist exosuit, which is designed for people in physically demanding jobs.The suit is like wearing a small backpack and some leg compression shorts, except when you bend down, it takes strain off a person’s back. There are versions designed for men and women.“There are elastic bands that are located along your back,” Zelik said. “When you bend down, instead of all of the strain going through your back muscles, some of that strain gets offloaded and goes through these elastic bands instead.”According to health experts, nearly 80% of Americans will suffer from back pain at some point during their lifetime. And while a new study by HeroWear shows this exosuit can cut down on back fatigue by up to 40%, spine specialists have some questions.“It is quite a contraption,” said William J. Lauretti, DC, a professor of chiropractic clinical sciences at New York Chiropractic College. “So, I couldn’t imagine working a whole day wearing it.”Lauretti says some of the alleged benefits of this exosuit could, in reality, be the result of a placebo effect.“If you’re wearing something like that,” he said, “ I think you’re more likely to be a little more cautious about what you do just because you’re wearing this big thing.”The exosuit costs ,200. For people in physically demanding jobs like Becker, the benefits are real.“It feels like when you bend down,” he said, “when you start to stand up, somebody is helping you stand up.”Becker added you can’t put a price tag on pain relief.“Definitely worth investing in,” he said. “Because this is me taking care of myself and taking care of my back for the future. Bayer announced on Thursday a voluntary recall of Alka-Seltzer Plus products sold after February 9, 2018 at retailers nationwide.The affected products can be identified by checking the Bayer logo located on the lower left corner of the front of the carton. If the logo has an orange or green background, the product is included in the recall.The products were sold in the U.S. at Walmart, CVS, Walgreens and Kroger (including Dillons Food Stores, Fred Meyer, Fry's Food Stores, Ralphs, King Soopers and Smith's Food and Drug)."The ingredients listed on the front sticker of the carton may potentially be different from the ingredients listed on the back of the carton," Bayer said in a statement. "This may lead consumers to ingest a product to which they may have an allergy or anaphylactic reaction, an ingredient which may be contraindicated for their medical condition or they intend to otherwise avoid. There may be potential for serious health consequences. BARRON COUNTY, Wis. - The home of Jayme Closs, a Wisconsin girl missing for about two weeks, was burglarized on the same weekend her parents were laid to rest.On Saturday, the Barron County Sheriff's Office says officers arrested 32-year-old Kyle Jaenke-Annis for burglary at the Closs home.According to a criminal complaint, Jaenke-Annis broke into the Closs home and stole several pieces of clothing believed to belong to Jayme, including tank tops, a dress, and underwear. According to the criminal complaint, Jaenke-Annis told authorities he was "curious about what size Jayme was". The Sheriff's Office says Jaenke-Annis has been cleared of any involvement in the disappearance but was charged in Barron County Court on Monday with Burglary and Bail Jumping. Online court records show Jaenke-Annis was facing charges for a different burglary case from August.Jayme Closs was reported missing after her parents were found murdered in their home two weeks ago. There has been no sign of Jayme since. A funeral for her parents was held Saturday afternoon. The Sheriff's Office says it has received over 2,000 tips and have closed over 1,875 of them in the search for Jayme. Britain’s government has backtracked on plans to give Chinese telecommunications company Huawei a limited role in the U.K.’s new high-speed mobile phone network in a decision with broad implications for relations between London and Beijing. Britain imposed the ban Tuesday after the U.S. threatened to sever an intelligence-sharing arrangement because of concerns Huawei equipment could allow the Chinese government to infiltrate U.K. networks. Prime Minister Boris Johnson was under pressure from rebels in his own Conservative Party who criticized China’s new Hong Kong security law and its treatment of ethnic Uighurs, as well as Huawei’s links to the Chinese government. 682
