SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County health officials Monday echoed Governor Gavin Newsom’s demand to close more businesses as coronavirus intensifies.The state announced Monday that it was closing indoor operations for places of worship, restaurants, wineries, movie theatres and family entertainment, zoos, museums, cardrooms, fitness centers, some offices, personal care services, hair salons and barbershops, and malls. All bars were also ordered to close."We are moving back into a modification mode of our stay-at-home order," Newsom said. The new order takes effect in San Diego at midnight Wednesday morning. The announcement comes as 419 more people throughout the county tested positive for coronavirus Monday. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police Friday arrested a fugitive sex offender from New York who was reportedly spotted in the area this week.Dale Dulac, 57, was arrested just after 1:40 p.m. Friday in the 1500 block of Imperial Ave. peacefully. Dulac was reported in the area after fleeing New York and violating his parole.He was charged with felony vehicle theft and receiving stolen property by San Diego Police. According to the United States Marshals Service, Dulac was also being held on a fugitive warrant for violating his parole when he left Niagara Falls, New York, on Sept. 20. 596

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego County public health officials said Friday that the region is dangerously close to being placed in the state's most restrictive reopening tier.The county's coronavirus case rate over the last 48 hours was alarming, according to Supervisor Nathan Fletcher."We've been living for most of the last month on the precipice of tiers," Fletcher said. "We now are concerned about the trends and we're concerned about the likelihood that we can tip back into purple."Fletcher says over the last six days, San Diego County's daily unadjusted case rates continue to increase.County Public Health Officer Dr. Wilma Wooten said since the start of this week, the county has seen its unadjusted case rate increase from 7.2 cases per 100,000 residents (7-day daily average from the previous week) on Sunday to 7.8 on Friday. The county's adjusted case rate has increased from 6.8 to 7.0 during the same time span.The last week reported for the county, San Diego reported an unadjusted case rate of 7.2 and an adjusted case rate of 6.8.Fletcher says the unadjusted case rate more closely represents the actual public spread of the coronavirus."The overwhelming majority of San Diegans are doing everything right. But we just have to go that extra mile in order to protect our status in our tier," Fletcher said.According to the state's reopening tier system, counties with a case rate of more than 7.0 and/or testing positivity percentage of 8% or greater for two consecutive weeks are placed in the purple tier, the state's most restrictive.Next Tuesday, Oct. 20, the state will report metrics for Oct. 4-10. Then on Oct. 27, the state will report results from Oct. 11-17.Officials say that's why they're sounding the alarm now, to encourage residents to double down on efforts around slowing the spread. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police have released video footage after officers shot and killed a murder suspect following a standoff on May 29.The 32-year-old suspect who was shot and killed was accused of shooting and killing another man at a City Heights apartment complex.The video shows officer stationed outside the apartment complex. Watch the full video below:According to police, gunfire was reported at the complex on the 3800 block of Euclid Avenue around 3:30 p.m.Officers later found a 62-year-old Hispanic man with at least one gunshot wound. Three officers fired their weapons at the suspect, striking him several times," a San Diego Police Department statement said. "Specially trained STAR medics deployed with the SWAT team to provide aid, but the suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene.
