CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) — Aquatica San Diego and Chula Vista police are warning trespassers after ABC 10News obtained video showing people inside the closed waterpark riding skateboards on some of their attractions. The clip starts with individuals climbing over barbed wire fencing surrounding the theme park. The group is seen casually walking the grounds of the park then skateboarding on water slides, including the six-story funnel ride Tassie's Twister. The 19-second video appeared on the social media app TikTok on May 19 and has been viewed more than 1.1 million times.10News showed the video to Aquatica, who confirmed there have been trespassing incidents recently. The park added that they have notified police and trespassers will face consequences."While Aquatica is temporarily closed because of COVID-19, the park is monitored 24/7. Our security team has caught trespassers in the park and notified the Chula Vista Police Department. Citations have been issued because trespassing is a misdemeanor crime. If property is damaged, it can be a felony," said Kelly Terry, SeaWorld and Aquatica spokeswoman, in a statement.RELATED: San Diego theme parks aim for July 1 reopening if state allowsCVPD Lt. Chris Kelley confirmed the incidents and said that some individuals have also been arrested. Kelley did not comment about the TikTok video nor offer any details on trespassing cases related to Aquatica. Some of the individuals in the video are recognizable to the camera. ABC 10News is blurring their faces because this station cannot confirm whether they are minors.Kelley says that the consequences for trespassing and vandalism are severe, adding that CVPD developed a video to deter the behavior during the stay-at-home order.RELATED: Video of skateboarding on Mt. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A new event space in the South Bay is paying homage to San Diego’s industrial history. Called “Salt Drift Pointe” the owners say they wanted to honor the industrial history driven by the old salt ponds that helped move the region from farming to industry. Over the years, the South Bay city has changed dramatically. Switching gears from an agricultural hub to an industrial one. Now, another shift is underway. One aimed at helping the city bring in more tourists. Lemons, oranges and lots of celery once dominated the landscape of Chula Vista. But that all changed in 1911 when the city was officially incorporated as part of California. RELATED: New event venue honors South Bay historyAs World War II shook the globe, Chula Vista began to shift from away from agriculture, moving toward an industrial revolution, according to the South Bay Historical Society. Now, Chula Vista is trying to increase tourism with the development of the Bayfront. In June, the Port of San Diego approved the .1 billion development plan that would add a 1,600-room hotel and 400,000 square foot convention center. 1138

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- The Chula Vista City Council Tuesday approved a number of items to help people struggling during the COVID-19 pandemic. The city’s eviction moratorium was extended until at least July 31, giving renters relief if they cannot make their monthly rent payments. The council also approved a .5 million small business grant program to reimburse businesses for losses caused by the closures during the pandemic. The money comes from the federal government. Businesses can apply for the grant on the city’s website and must meet certain criteria. Some of the requirements include having less than 10 employees, being independently owned and not being an essential business. For businesses along Third Avenue, the relief is welcome. Chula Vista Brewery has moved their business outdoors and continued curbside pick-up to stay afloat during the pandemic. In a move to expand outdoor dining, Chula Vista’s council approved a permitting process to allow businesses on Third Avenue to expand into the public right of way, with social distancing and ADA compliance. This will allow for things like sidewalk and curb cafes. The city also authorized the closure of a portion of Third Avenue to traffic. The closure would only be on weekends during certain hours from now until January to allow for dining outdoors, but so far, there isn’t any plan in place to make that official. In addition to relief for businesses and renters, the city voted to accept nearly 0,000 in emergency aid for the homeless. To find out if you qualify for the city's small business grant click here. 1600
