SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A woman was taken to the hospital after the car she was riding in -- which was believed to have been stolen -- struck a building and two parked vehicles in the El Cerrito area on Friday morning.San Diego police said the collision happened at around 5:15 a.m. in the 5800 block of El Cajon Boulevard.Witnesses told ABC 10News they saw a silver Honda Accord traveling at a high rate of speed, possibly reaching 100 MPH, when it lost control and collided with a building and parked cars, littering the area with debris and car parts.Responding emergency crews pulled a female from the wreckage and took her to the hospital. Police said the woman suffered a broken hip and deep laceration on the back of her leg.One witness said a man, believed to be the driver, was able to get out of the wrecked car and ran away from the scene. He was described as Black, in his 20s, wearing a black sweater and black pants.According to police, as officers and emergency crews responded to the crash, a man called 911 to report his car that was left running outside of a business on El Cajon Boulevard was stolen.Police told ABC 10News they believe the car in the crash was the same vehicle stolen a few blocks away. 1226

The honking and cheering lasted well into the night.“I think healing at this point is what the country needs,” said Joe Hoffman, a Biden supporter in Hillcrest.At Waterfront Park in Downtown San Diego, a crowd of President Trump’s supporters lined the streets with similar signs and cheers, also encouraging people to honk.One San Diego man and supporter of President Trump made the decision to drive to Sacramento through Friday night, arriving Saturday morning to the news of the projected winners. After the overnight drive, Blake Marnell attended a rally in front of the Capitol. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego woman bought a puppy for her kids. Four hours later, it was dead. Team 10 investigative reporter Jennifer Kastner spoke to local veterinarians who say that a new state law is, in part, to blame. “It was beautiful. It was sweet,” says Enjoli Spaulding of her former Golden Retriever puppy. The San Diego mother of three had been looking for a family Golden Retriever for some time. She checked with formal breeders but the prices were high. “Those dogs are about ,500, minimum,” she tells us. Then she found an adorable Golden Retriever puppy for 0 on a buy-sell website called Recycler.Spaulding, along with her mother, Kathy Pardini, met the seller in a parking lot.“[The puppy] seemed like it had been very loved,” says Pardini. Spaulding adds, “She gave me a vaccination record. She also gave me a bill from the vet when the dog had a physical exam.” The deal appeared to be legitimate, so Spaulding handed over the cash, and they went to surprise her son at school. “He said, ‘Mom, you got me a dog! My very own dog!’ He was just over the moon,” she tells us.The family took the puppy home and played with it in the backyard. “My daughter got her tea set ready,” says Spaulding. Then the playtime took a terrifying turn. Parvovirus suddenly wreaked havoc on the puppy’s bowels and it was bleeding. The puppy was rushed to the hospital, where he was put down. The family was devastated. “The vet told me the dog had been sick for a long time. This was not a new situation,” she tells 10News.“It was surreal,” adds Pardini.Spaulding says the seller would not return her calls. She also discovered that the puppy’s paperwork from the seller was apparently forged. “It was a completely fake document,” she says. She has since filed a police report.Dr. Scott DiLorenzo is a veterinarian and owner of Escondido's Animal Urgent Care. “We have seen an uptick in these cases,” he tells 10News. He says a new California law is part of the problem. It bans pet stores from selling dogs, cats and rabbits, unless they come from shelters or rescues. The law was intended to stop harmful breeding operations like puppy mills. Yet now, consumers aren't always sure where to turn to for specific breeds that they want. “There's just limited sources for people to go out and get the breeds that they want so they're turning to unvetted websites,” adds Dr. DiLorenzo.The American Kennel Club writes, in part, to 10News, "The uptick in this trend corresponds precisely with the implementation of California's new ban on the sale of purpose bred pets at regulated pet shops…”San Diegan Lisa Hexom says she got scammed with a sick dog, too. “I don't want to lose him,” she cries from the veterinary hospital. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Among the propositions that will be on the November ballot in California, Proposition 17 will ask voters to decide whether or not to allow individuals on parole to vote.Voters will vote "yes" or "no" on the proposition, which is an amendment to the state's constitution introduced by Sacramento Assemblymember Kevin McCarty, according to BallotPedia.In California, those who are "mentally incompetent or imprisoned or on parole for the conviction of a felony" for a state or federal sentence are not allowed to vote.The passage of Proposition 17 would instead direct the state to only disqualify those who are currently serving a sentence for the conviction of a felony and allow those on parole for a felony conviction to vote."Parole is not an extension of punishment. It's a reintegration time for someone to come back in their community," says Shay Franco-Clausen, the Yes on Prop 17 Campaign Manager. "What better way to make them feel that they have a stake in the community is there than giving the right to them."Those who support Prop 17 argue, "when a person completes their prison sentence, they should be encouraged to reenter society and have a stake in their community. Restoring their voting rights does that. Civic engagement is connected to lower rates of recidivism.
