(KGTV) - Two teenagers were stopped in their tracks when they looked into a tree and found a creature looking back at them along a Carlsbad street.Two Fridays ago, around 10:30 a.m., a freshman college student did a double take while walking along Babilonia Street in the La Costa area. He called a friend, who drove right over. They made a quick recording."Omigod, look at him," one of the teens is heard whispering in the video.Perched in a tree, about 25 feet up, was a mountain lion, growling.The mother of one of the teens tells ABC 10News soon after they stopped recording, they looked up, and it was gone.Lauren DuBois of Project Wildlife at the San Diego Humane Society, says it's hard to tell the big cat whether the mountain lion was a juvenile or an adult. She says it's not surprising it was in a tree."Not unusual at all. They will climb trees, and rest in trees quite often," said DuBois.Dubois says it was likely relaxing after a long night."They can have up to 100 square miles of a territory. Most of time they are hunting from dusk to dawn, so a lot of the time, that’s where (tree) they will be resting," said DuBois.The concern? Less than half a mile away, is La Costa Meadows Elementary School, which began in-person learning in October.Neighbors tell us there have been sightings of a mountain lion in nearby Box Canyon for years. One of those neighbors did file a report of the most recent sighting with state Fish and Wildlife officials.DuBois say this big cat wasn't being aggressive. What about the growl?"Hey, I’m up here. Don’t want you to be there. I'm going to take off now," said Dubois.She says if you ever do spy a mountain lion in a tree, slowly back away and maintain eye contact."It's probably going to just leave. Canadian health officials’ approval of the NHL’s return-to-play proposal has led the league to consider designating one or more cities north of the border to serve as hubs for its 24-team playoff format. The approval comes as the NHL has entered the advanced stages of selecting its hub cities, which include three located in Canada. CHICAGO, Ill. – A star of the Netflix show “Cheer” has been arrested and charged with producing child pornography.The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois said in a press release Thursday that Jeremiah (Jerry) Harris used a social media app to repeatedly entice an underage boy to produce and send sexually explicit videos and photos of himself.A criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Chicago shows the victim informed Harris that he was 13 years old during their initial encounter online.Harris, a Naperville resident, was taken into custody Thursday morning on the one count of producing child pornography, according to the U.S. attorney’s office.Production of child porn is punishable by a minimum sentence of 15 years in prison and a maximum of 30 years.Harris is scheduled to make an initial court appearance Thursday afternoon before U.S. Magistrate Judge M. David Weisman in Chicago.Law enforcement is continuing to investigate. (KGTV) -- The desalination plant in Carlsbad is celebrating the production of 40-billion gallons of water since it opened three years ago.That's enough water to fill the Empire State Building 145 times. Or a billion bath tubs. The "watermark" being celebrated Thursday with a gathering of officials, including former U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer, Carlsbad Mayor Matt Hall and Poseidon CEO Carlos Riva. All sharing a toast with a glass of fresh water produced by the plant. Water so clean once it passes through the reverse osmosis system, say plant officials, they have to add mineral back into it. "The water molecule makes it through," says Poseidon Community Outreach Director Jessica Jones. "But the salt molecule -or any other impurities, viruses or bacteria- are too large. (KGTV) — LEGOLAND California helped make the season bright for one lucky 11-year-old who in return, helped usher in the holidays at the park.Gideon Robinson, an 11-year-old cancer survivor from Lake Elsinore, and his family helped the park light its 30-foot tall LEGO Christmas tree in the park's Fun Town. After pulling the switch, Robinson helped illuminate the tree's 11,000+ twinkling lights, which is set atop more than 400 LEGO decorations and 245,000 green DUPLO bricks.Robinson was given a star ornament and special invitation to the park's LEGO Movie World expansion set to open next year. He and his family were also treated to a stay at the LEGOLAND Castle Hotel.Robinson is a two-time cancer survivor who was first diagnosed with acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia a week after his fifth birthday and again in 2019 after a short remission before receiving news that he had beaten leukemia."During these unprecedented times when so many are faced with challenges, it’s positive stories such as Gideon’s that provide inspiration to all of us," said LEGOLAND California Resort President Kurt Stocks.
