JACUMBA HOT SPRINGS, Calif. (KGTV) - Sheriff’s Deputies and members of the Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement Task Force notified residents of Jacumba Hot Springs and Boulevard Thursday about the placement of a sexually violent predator. Law enforcement officers went door to door in the East San Diego County communities to make neighbors aware that Alan Earl James will be placed into the area on or before April 25. James is scheduled to move to 45612 Old Highway 80 after he is released from Department of State Hospitals Coalinga, sheriff’s officials said in a news release. RELATED: Sex crime survivors protest release of Alan Earl JamesOfficials said James has felony convictions from the early 1980s for kidnapping, sexual battery, rape by force, and lewd and lascivious acts against children under 14 years old. The victims were primarily girls, but boys were also preyed upon, officials said. Some of James’ victims argued against his release. “He will re-offend if he gets out. He did it once before. They gave him a slap on the wrist for raping me, and when he got out, he raped two other girls,” Robert Nabors told 10News at a previous hearing.RELATED: San Diego County Supervisor asks state to look into placement of sexually violent predatorsCounty Supervisor Dianne Jacob opposed James’ placement in her community, citing a high number of sexual predators who live in her district. 1404
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Multiple people are dead and injured after a fellow gamer fired about a dozen rounds in the middle of a tournament in Florida. A gaming expert says there was limited security.Gayle Dickie, CEO of Gamer World News, said these kinds of tournaments happen all over the world and all the time."This is horrifying, really," she said. The shots rang out on the second and final day of the Madden 19 Tournament. Players entered Chicago Pizza on the first floor of Jacksonville Landing and Dickie said there was little security."It's unfortunate because it was a smaller event, I mean it wasn't a large event," Dickie said. "If you go to events like the Barclay's Center or Staple's, you're going to go through a metal detector."Inside, gamers entered their own world."It is probably the biggest quality of a gamer, to have that intense focus, so everybody was focused on gameplay," Dickie said. She added that made it easy for 24-year-old David Katz to find his targets."It sounds like he knew who he was going after, so you know and you saw the two players sitting there. I saw the video and you can see them sitting there, and it didn't take him long, you know, obviously he knew what he was looking for," she said.Dickie said gamers can be as young as 12-years-old at these competitions."It's just shaken the core of the gamer community. No one would ever think that something like this would happen," she said.Dickie said the gaming world provides a place for everyone to find a niche community to which they belong. Now she hopes everyone watches out for one another."I think this will be the focal point of being aware of your surroundings no matter where you are," she said. 1747
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The numbers are in: more Americans will travel this Thanksgiving than the past 12. The travel organization AAA released its annual holiday travel forecast Thursday. It predicts nearly 51 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles to celebrate the holiday. That's a 3 percent increase from last year, and the highest number since 2005. Travelers can expect to pay more for gasoline than years past, but less for airfare. AAA expects 89 percent of travelers to get to their destination by driving. To avoid getting caught in traffic, experts say you should stay off the roads the Tuesday and Wednesday before Thanksgiving, especially in the afternoons. That's when normal workweek commuters and travelers are on the road at the same time. "Plan ahead. Try to make sure you're getting out the door early in the morning, if possible. If you can travel on the holiday, that would be even better for travelers," explained Tamara Johnson with AAA.Travel experts said the high number of travelers is a good indicator people are earning money and feel comfortable spending it. "A strong economy and labor market are generating rising incomes and higher consumer confidence, fueling a strong year for the travel industry, which will continue into the holiday season," said Bill Sutherland, AAA senior vice president of Travel and Publishing, in a press release. These are the top 10 Thanksgiving travel destinations, according to AAA. 1 Orlando, Florida 1535
