(KGTV) -- After a trip to visit their grandma in Ohio, eight year old Lilly and 12 year old Zachary were driving back to California with their mom and grandma when a wrong-way driver hit their car head-on in Oklahoma, killing all four of them. The wrong-way driver, identified by Oklahoma authorities as 33-year-old Ashley Louise Ricks, survived the crash.Monday, Oklahoma authorities gave an update, saying witnesses smelled alcohol at the scene of the crash. Witnesses and 911 calls also reveal the woman was driving at a high rate of speed and in the wrong direction for at least nine miles before the fatal crash occurred. Authorities said they’re currently investigating her medical history, driver history and taking blood samples before making any charges.The family was driving back to Vista, near San Diego, so Lilly could make it back home in time for school to resume. A GoFundMe created by a family friend shows the kids called their dad and stepmom every day while on vacation, telling them about the fun they’d had on their trip.Sam Homant, the kids’ dad, and their stepmom Melissa Starnes said the last time they talked to their son, it was the night of the crash.“He was excited to come home. We had just got him a brand new bed, a brand new bed that he was just so excited for, this pillow top mattress and he was so excited. And that was the last thing that we said to him,” said Starnes.They described the kids as family oriented and special. Zachary had a creative and kind heart.“He could take Legos and create anything out of Legos. He loved to build, just a smart smart little boy. Very creative. Wanted to be an architect. His imagination was off the rack,” they said.Lilly had similar passions to many little girls her age, but also loved to ride her dad’s motorcycle with him.“She loved makeup and dancing and her dolls. She loved to draw,” they said.The GoFundMe will help pay to bring the kids home. As they grieve, these parents want answers.“They had such a bright future and it’s been taken away by this lady and we don’t know why. In 2019, over one-third of Americans said they visited a casino within the previous year, contributing to an industry that generates billions of dollars annually in state and local tax revenue, according to the American Gaming Association. To get those visitors back, casinos had to do more than install plastic.“We’ve put Plexiglas between the counters, we’ve spaced out the seats and couches in each of the race and sports books, and we make sure that our customers as well as our employees are always wearing masks, and socially distancing,” George Kliavkoff, President of Entertainment and Sports for MGM Resorts, said. “We’ve also introduced kiosks which allow people to sign up and place bets without having to go to a counter.“Kliavkoff said even with the safety measures in place, fewer bets are being placed the old-fashioned way.“When everything was shut down across the company and all of our hotels and casinos were shuttered, we were still making revenue with sports betting and iGaming. iGaming is online casino and poker and that actually surged as a business during the COVID shutdown,” he said. “Even if they’re in the sportsbook and enjoying watching the game in the sportsbook, we prefer them be placing their bets on the app, so that’s an embrace of the mobile technology.”While online betting and gambling isn’t legal in all states, MGM has created a platform for it called BetMGM. MGM Resorts recently attracted a billion investment from IAC. The company cited interest in MGM's online gaming and sports betting business. “We think that in four or five years, 38 states including a vast majority of the U.S. population will have legalized sports gaming and most of that will be done on mobile,” Kliavkoff said.“In those jurisdictions where online gambling is legal, there's this big surge of players. All of a sudden a lot of people were gambling online,” Rippee said. “Because it was legal and you could do it at home.” He sees online as a big opportunity for casinos as people’s priorities with travel change.“There are going to be some lasting changes,” he said.As tourists trickle back into casinos, the potential for online gambling is getting a lot of attention. But until it’s legal in more states, casinos are making a gamble on safety measures to bring customers back in.“Vegas always comes back, but that excitement is tempered. (KGTV) -- Authorities are searching for a suspect they say groped a 14-year-old girl at a Vista restaurant.According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, a man walked into the Panda Express on Main Street in Vista and grabbed a 14-year-old on the buttocks on March 21.The department says the man then left the restaurant driving a black sedan.The suspect is described a black man between 35 to 45-years-old who is five feet, nine inches tall and weighs about 200 pounds.Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 573

WASHINGTON — As COVID-19 cases skyrocketed before the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, the coordinator of the White House coronavirus response warned Americans to “be vigilant” and to limit celebrations to “your immediate household.” For many Americans that guidance has been difficult to abide, including for Dr. Deborah Birx herself. The day after Thanksgiving, Birx traveled to one of her vacation properties on Fenwick Island in Delaware. She was accompanied by three generations of her family from two households. Kathleen Flynn, whose brother is married to Birx's daughter, told the Associated Press she came forward about the travel out of concern for her own parents, and acknowledged there was family friction over the incident. WASHINGTON (AP) — A Justice Department investigation finds that Yale University is illegally discriminating against Asian American and white applicants, in violation of federal civil rights law. Yale denies the allegation, calling it “meritless” and “hasty.” The findings were detailed in a letter to the college’s attorneys Thursday. The letter was obtained by the Associated Press. It marks the latest action by the Trump administration aimed at rooting out discrimination in the college application process. The Justice Department says the two-year investigation concluded that Yale “rejects scores of Asian American and white applicants each year based on their race, whom it otherwise would admit.” 711
