LANZHOU, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- Inspectors had found poisonous chemical in the Sanlu infant formula produced by one of its partner producers in northwest China's Gansu Province, an official said on Sunday.     Two out of the 12 samples randomly selected from the Sanlu milk powder produced by the Haoniu Dairy Co., Ltd. in Jiuquan City had tested positive for melamine, said Xian Hui, vice-governor of Gansu.     "The products of Haoniu have been sealed up," he said.     The test was conducted after the Sanlu Group, a leading Chinese dairy producer based in northern Hebei Province, admitted that it had found some of its baby milk powder products were contaminated with melamine, a chemical raw material strictly forbidden by the country to be used in food processing.     As of Saturday, a total of 432 babies throughout the nation have been sickened with kidney stones after drinking the contaminated milk powder.     Haoniu was founded in 2002 with the registered capital of 51 million yuan (7.45 million U.S. dollars). Its production was in line with the Sanlu standard and its products use the Sanlu trademark.     As of Saturday night, Gansu has reported 102 cases of infant kidney stone caused by the Sanlu milk powder. Two babies have died, Xian said.     The province has so far seized altogether 164,000 packs of Sanlu milk powder.

BEIJING, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- The Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee recently held a forum to solicit opinions and suggestions from non-Communist personages on the documents of its latest plenary session held late last week.     CPC Central Committee General Secretary Hu Jintao briefed the leaders of the non-Communist parties, leaders of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, and persons without party affiliation on what was considered when forming the document. He asked them to raise suggestions on its revision.     Some delegates made remarks, approving the summary made by the CPC Central Committee on the experiences of the 30 years of rural reform and development and supporting the guideline thinking, objectives, principles and measures of rural reform and development.     They raised suggestions on the overall plan of urban and rural development, farmland protection, grain security, spread of agricultural technology and rural financial system reform, as well as on deepening cross-Strait agricultural exchanges and cooperation and improving grassroots democracy.     After hearing the opinions, Hu said the suggestions were valuable and reflected the in-depth thinking of the participants. Relevant departments would conscientiously study and adopt them.     He added China was an agricultural country with the majority of its population in rural areas. Addressing issues on agriculture, the countryside and farmers would be taken as the fundamental work.     Since China launched its reform and opening up, the CPC Central Committee had held many plenary sessions to discuss agricultural and rural issues.     Facing new situations and tasks, the rural development system should be continually innovated, Hu said, adding rural reform remained the key to China's reform, and agriculture and rural development were still the strategic foundation of the country's development.     Promoting rural reform and development would bring the national economy and society into a new round of development, he added.     Hu asked the participants in the forum to contribute to the new socialist countryside construction by make in-depth study, identify and handle the protruding problems in rural reform and development in a timely manner, and raise relevant suggestions accordingly.     Wen Jiabao, Jia Qinglin and Xi Jinping, members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, also attended the forum.     On Sunday, the CPC Central Committee approved a decision on major issues concerning rural reform and development at the close of a four-day meeting, such as doubling the income of rural residents, boosting their consumption by a big margin and basically eliminating absolute poverty in rural areas by 2020.

LANZHOU, July 10 (Xinhua) -- Local governments should promote the spirit of quake relief to carry out reconstruction work and economic and social development, said a senior Chinese official.     Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said this during his inspection tour to quake-affected Shaanxi and Gansu provinces from Sunday to Thursday that there have been heavy tasks for local governments in terms of relocating quake survivors and rebuilding damaged or destroyed facilities. BEIJING, May 4 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao urged Chinese law students to be fair-minded and patriotic in future law enforcement here on Sunday.     A law student should develop a high degree of sense of responsibility for the country, the society and the people. He or she should be fair-minded and above all, love this country, said Wen during his visit to the China University of Political Science and Law on China's Youth Day.     During his trip, Wen first went to the first floor of the university's library, which boasts the country's largest collection of modern law books. Here Wen met senior experts and professors and talked with them about the law history.     "We will better implement the policy of 'administration according to Law'", said Wen, when receiving a collection of law history books from professor Zhang Jinfan, who spent 19 years with some 10 professors to compile these books.     Wen then stepped into the second floor of the library, where he joined the students in the reading room and exchanged views on legal system building.     When asked by Wang Tuo, a PhD candidate majoring in Criminal Law, about his expectations for the concept of "Ruling the Country by Law", Wen said the concept served as a basis for developing economy and maintaining social harmony     To promote democracy, improve the legal system, and rule the country by law is not only a national strategy, but also serves to safeguard the personal rights and freedom of every citizen, he said. The Premier knows so much about law and puts such strong emphasis on law, I will study hard and make my contributions to the country," said postgraduate Chen Xuemeng.     Around 12 o'clock, Wen walked into the school's cafeteria and had lunch with the students.     The Premier expressed his concern over the recent price rise, and asked the students if they could afford the daily food and whether the scholarship could help them solve their difficulties.     To make sure that the college students' living standards are not influenced by the price rise, the government has allocated 20 yuan of subsidy per month for each college student, with those from very poor families receiving 40 yuan each per month, Wen said.     At 12:30, the premier left the campus as large crowds of students waved goodbye.     "The Premier's visit makes this Youth Day special and meaningful," said student Yang Kunzhang, "The premier's expectations direct the way of our future efforts".Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao (L) shakes hands with students of China University of Political Science and Law in Beijing, capital of China, May 4, 2008.
