SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A new report shows where San Diego ranks among best and worst cities in California to retire. According to WalletHub, San Diego takes the 47th spot on the list among 257 other cities throughout California. America’s Finest City ranked 51st for quality of life, 139th for health care and 4th in the activities ranking. San Diego did take the top spot in California in several categories. According to WalletHub, San Diego has the most museums and fishing facilities per capita when compared with other California cities. San Diego did, however, rank quite a bit lower when it comes to adjusted cost of living and percentage of population aged 65 and older, placing 149th and 145th respectively. According to the WalletHub ranking, the best cities in California for retirement are Los Gatos, Los Altos and Walnut Creek. The lowest-ranking cities are Modesto, San Bernardino and Stockton. To compile the list WalletHub compared more than 250 cities across 28 key metrics. 997

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A newly-released poll shows key San Diego County races are undecided ahead of the June 5 primary election.Many of the 1,100 voters questioned in the scientific 10News/Union-Tribune poll showed no clear preference for non-partisan positions including District Attorney, Sheriff, and County Assessor.DISTRICT ATTORNEYSummer Stephan, the interim San Diego County District Attorney, held 35 percent of the vote to Genevieve Jones-Wright’s 22 percent. Stephan led among Republicans, white voters, and those over 35 years old. Jones-Wright led among Democrats, and Latino and younger voters. 43 percent of voters were undecided in the race.Stephan was appointed by the Board of Supervisors last year to fill the remainder for Bonnie Dumanis’ term. Jones-Wright is a Deputy Public Defender. The two have met in several public forums.  SAN DIEGO COUNTY SHERIFFIncumbent Sheriff Bill Gore led Sheriff’s Department commander Dave Meyers by 10 percent in the poll. However, 33 percent of voters were undecided.Gore had stronger support from senior citizens, white voters and conservatives.  COUNTY ASSESSOR/RECORDER/COUNTY CLERKThe countywide election pitting incumbent Ernest Dronenburg Jr. against ethics attorney Matt Strabone shows voters were essentially tied, with a 6.3 percent margin of error. Dronenburg held 20 percent of the vote to Strabone’s 17 percent.An overwhelming 63 percent of voters were undecided.  VOTER BREAKDOWN84 percent of those surveyed said they were registered to vote in California. 14 percent were not, and 2 percent were not sure.About half of San Diegans said they would definitely vote in the June 5 election. About a fourth said they would likely vote. A combined 11 percent said they were unlikely or certain not to vote.According to the Registrar of Voters, 75 percent of those eligible to vote in the county are registered. Of those registered, 37 percent are registered Democrats, 29 percent are registered Republicans and another 29 percent are Independent. As far as voter turnout for the June Primary, over the last 30 years, the highest number of voters to turn out was 40 percent in 1990.  DO POLITICAL PARTIES MAKE A DIFFERENCE?The Survey USA pollsters asked San Diegans if political parties impacted how they planned to vote in the elections. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A mountain lion cub rescued by the San Diego Humane Society continues to make great strides in its recovery.The Humane Society said the female cub was found by Vista Grande Fire Station firefighters near a road in Idyllwild on Sept. 2. The cub was “semiconscious, extremely emaciated, dehydrated, weak and had tremors,” according to the Humane Society.Under the care of the Humane Society’s Project Wildlife, the cub -- believed to be 14 weeks old -- has made significant health progress.Through daily fluid therapy, medications, and proper meals, the Humane Society said the cub has increased her weight from 10.5 pounds to 22 pounds.Christine Barton, the director of Operations & Wildlife Rehabilitation at the Humane Society’s Ramona campus, said, “With each passing day, she becomes more active and responsive and, though she still has some medical issues to overcome from being in such a fragile state, we are delighted she has responded well to our treatment and are hopeful she will make a full recovery. Mountain lions are special predators and we are proud to have an expert team trusted by the state of California to care for the species.”The Humane Society added:“Mountain lions typically stay with their mother until they disperse to live a solitary life at around 12-18 months of age. Because it is not safe to return a young mountain lion to the wild if found injured or orphaned as a kitten, Project Wildlife has been working with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife to monitor her progress and when stabilized, to ensure she has a good permanent home at a qualified facility.San Diego Humane Society acquired the Fund for Animals Wildlife Center in Ramona on Sept. 1 from the Humane Society of the United States. This mountain lion cub is the first wildlife patient admitted at the Ramona Campus since San Diego Humane Society’s Project Wildlife took over.Project Wildlife is one of only two licensed rehabilitation organizations that have a special agreement with the state to work with black bears and are also routinely called on to assist with other apex predators, such as mountain lions.” 2153

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A nurse at UC San Diego Health is turning to music when trying to connect with patients during telemedicine visits."I've always listened to music so I started teasing my patients 'hey you owe me a nurses fee' and they'd be like 'what's that?' I'd tell them it's your favorite song, a lot of people responded well and it'd help build a rapport with them." It might sound silly but Joe Bautista, nurse with UCSD for over 6 years, said it helped him build a connection with patients in ways he'd never imagine."I was like what's your favorite song? And she said 'Tennessee Whiskey' and I said why? She said 'I really need a Tennessee Whiskey' right now so that was really funny."His patients are recovering after testing positives for COVID-19. "You're on the phone with them but you also hear their stressors, and their anxiety and you want to provide them comfort," Bautista said. His job is to track and assess their progress along the way. The music part, he said, is an added bonus, "It was for me to find a connection with each of my patients to make sure I could advocate for them the best I could."He said in nursing school when patients were sick and feeling uneased, he would ask about their favorite song and their faces would light up. "They're able to talk to us freely because I'm showing interest in something that's personal to them so they can develop that trust with me." SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A San Diego brewery is helping locals who find themselves in the kitchen more during California's stay at home order try their hands at bread making.Mission Brewery is offering small bags of dried yeast for free to community members in need."As a bread baker myself, I realized that yeast has become almost impossible to find on grocery shelves because of the COVID-19 crisis," says Mission Brewery owner Dan Selis.
