The 2018 Summer Movies in the Park series will kick off next Friday with a viewing of Coco at Waterfront Park.The event series is a great option for a family-friendly night out--- it offers games, giveaways, music and activities before the sun goes down. After sunset, you and your family can settle into your chairs and blankets to watch a movie under the stars.Movies are rated G through PG-13. This year’s Summer Movies in the Park is bigger than ever, with 151 movies showing at dozens of parks across the county. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — With scorching temperatures across San Diego County, crowds flocked to the beach. While this is typical for a San Diego summer, there is one major difference in 2020.“We’re very conscious about crowds,” said Encinitas local Jennifer Marakovits.She and her husband Joe visited Del Mar Saturday afternoon. The two brought their own masks and sat watching the crowds from a distance.“It’s a matter of life or death and wearing a mask to me, it’s worth it,” said Joe.RELATED: Del Mar hiring more officials to enforce mask policies, ,000 fine possibleNearby, a Sheriff's deputy walked around. This is a new addition to the area. Del Mar’s city council voted to spend ,000 through the next four months to bring in extra deputies to help with mask and social distancing enforcement. Prior to this decision, one single deputy worked at a time, and with thousands of people visiting every day, the decision was made to help enforce county orders. The deputies will work a few four-hour shifts a week, changing the time, place, and location depending on the day.The deputy out Saturday afternoon held a stack of informational pamphlets and a box of face masks, which he handed out to anyone not wearing a mask who passed him. The goal is to keep the extra deputy taking educational actions similar to this, however, they could issue a citation that could cost up to ,000 for a violation. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Wednesday, the White House announced that it has pardoned Margaret Hunter one day after granting a pardon to former Congressman Duncan Hunter over misuse of campaign funds.Margaret Hunter was sentenced to eight months of home confinement and three years probation after she pleaded guilty to a conspiracy charge. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Two children suffered injuries Monday when a pick-up truck driven by an elderly man hit tables and parked cars outside a University City Starbucks.The crash happened about 8 a.m. outside the coffee shop at 3202 Governor Drive at Regents Road, according to San Diego Police. The Starbucks is near the University City Post Office.The 85-year-old man driving the truck jumped the curb, crashing into customers.A 6-year-old girl was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. Police did not release details about her condition. A 2-year-old girl had an injury to her lip but did not need further treatment.San Diego Police have not announced what caused the crash. 689

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two girls were rescued at Sunset Cliffs by teenage bystanders on Friday after being swept out to sea.Local still photographer Jim Grant was hoping to capture the sunset at Sunset Cliffs Friday evening. But he got much more than just a beauty shot."There were some crazy things going on," Grant said.He ended up witnessing a cliff and water rescue."Two young girls ... They looked to be about 12 or 13," Grant said. "They were down at this point, and a large set came in and swept them off their feet.""The older one hit her head probably down on the reef and had a pretty serious head injury in the water," Lt. Andy Lerum with the San Diego Lifeguards said.Before first responders could arrive on the scene, two boys jumped into the water to help the girls. The two teenage boys worked to keep the girls above water until help arrived, lifeguards said, adding that their efforts were instrumental in saving their lives."It was big surf," Grant remembered. "The girls could not swim or couldn't swim very well, that's for sure. And it just could've been a tragic event if those two guys didn't happen to be here."Grant captured dramatic photos of the rescue, showing responders hoist one of the girls from the cliffs. In the end, Grant did get his sunset shot, just with an amazing cliff rescue in the foreground.Lifeguards remind folks that even in exposed reef areas, strong waves could come crashing at any moment.
