SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police are searching for an at-risk missing man who disappeared from downtown Saturday morning. According to police, 57-year-old William Groves was last seen at the corner of 7th Avenue and A street around 10:25 a.m. Saturday. Groves suffers from seizures and has short-term memory loss due to a traumatic brain injury. Police say Groves is also a dependent adult with no money or medication and is visiting San Diego from Hawaii with his mother. According to police, Groves is known to be friendly and talkative. He is described as five feet, five inches tall with brown eyes, gray and black hair and light skin. Groves was last seen wearing a yellow t-shirt with checkered shorts and a black eye patch. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County is no longer abnormally dry, according to a new report from the U.S. Drought Monitor. The report shows a large swath of Southern California having no drought. Most of California, however, remains abnormally dry, according to the report. According to the National Weather Service, the San Diego International Airport measured nearly four inches of rain since October 1st. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police have released video footage after officers shot and killed a murder suspect following a standoff on May 29.The 32-year-old suspect who was shot and killed was accused of shooting and killing another man at a City Heights apartment complex.The video shows officer stationed outside the apartment complex. Watch the full video below:According to police, gunfire was reported at the complex on the 3800 block of Euclid Avenue around 3:30 p.m.Officers later found a 62-year-old Hispanic man with at least one gunshot wound. The man was treated before being pronounced dead.Officers were then directed to a nearby complex where the suspect was believed to be hiding while a SWAT team arrived.RELATED: San Diego police officers shoot, kill murder suspect following standoff in City Heights"The suspect walked half way down the stairs towards the officers' positions and challenged them to come get him before retreating back into his apartment," police said.The man then descended back down the stairs towards officers."When the suspect had descended half way down the stairs, he extended a pistol in the direction of the officers. Three officers fired their weapons at the suspect, striking him several times," a San Diego Police Department statement said. "Specially trained STAR medics deployed with the SWAT team to provide aid, but the suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene. A firearm and a knife were recovered."Earlier in the week, the suspect’s mother reportedly contacted police after he threatened her with a firearm.Police say the women told investigators her son wanted to be involved in a shooting with police and to commit “suicide by cop.” 1700

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego City Councilman Chris Cate sent a letter to Gov. Gavin Newsom's office on Monday, asking that comedy clubs in San Diego be allowed to reopen safely.The letter requests that performances be allowed to reopen in outdoor settings, with shows lasting no longer than an hour."We're not talking about concerts here where thousands of people are sitting next to each other," Cate said. "These are performances that are done while folks and individuals are having dinner in a restaurant setting, properly distanced, why should they be treated any differently?"Earlier this month, some comedy clubs, like The Comedy Palace in Kearney Mesa, moved their comedy shows outdoors, only to find out they were in violation of public health orders and made to stop.George Salek, co-owner of The Comedy Place, said they have a lot of outdoor space, and people were able to observe social distancing."Eighty people is what we're trying to put in 5,000 square feet," he said. "It's really safe."Cate said San Diego's entertainment industry is an important part of the economy."I think anyone who can fit the confines of what we want to have done," Cate said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego leaders say they are working to help prepare the county's homeless population to protect themselves from the coronavirus.An outreach team has been busy installing hand washing stations across San Diego to address the virus concerns as it affects those experiencing homelessness. Team members have been helping individuals protect themselves against the virus by passing out hygiene kits that include hand sanitizer, info on symptoms, water, soap, tissues, and hand wipes.Nurses have also started to visit San Diego shelters to help prepare those staying there, especially those suffering from underlying medical conditions or who are older. Leaders say nurses are prepared to be on site to assist with screening potential patients and identify potential housing options if they need to be moved for care. Potential options include motels, government buidlings or facilities, or tents, according to leaders.According to the county, medical professionals are on high alert for any possible local outbreak. Currently, one person has been confirmed to have coronavirus. That patient is said to be doing well. Leaders added that there is no evidence of "community-based transmission" in San Diego.Those who are testing in San Diego County must do so through a primary doctor.
