DENVER – A Virginia politician police say is a well-known advocate for pedophilia was arrested Monday at Denver International Airport on a misdemeanor charge of harboring a minor after allegedly kidnapping a 12-year-old girl from Fresno, California earlier in the day. The victim was rescued and physically unharmed, police said Saturday.Nathan Daniel Larson, 40, was traveling with the girl from Fresno to Washington DC when he was arrested at DIA during a layover in Denver, police said.Although Larson was arrested on misdemeanor charges, he is facing felony charges in Fresno County for kidnapping, child abduction, soliciting child pornography from a minor and meeting a child for the intention of sex.Larson allegedly met his victim through social media in mid-October and coerced her into running away with him, police said. On Sunday, Larson flew to Fresno from Virginia and then traveled to the girl’s home.Around 2:00 a.m. Monday, police said Larson arrived at the victim’s Fresno home in a ride-share vehicle and persuaded her to sneak out of her house. Larson made her wear a long hair wig to alter her appearance. He also told her to act as though she was disabled and unable to speak to ensure she would not converse with anyone at the airport while making their way onto the airplane, according to a Fresno County Sheriff’s Office release.Witnesses told investigators that Larson was touching the victim inappropriately while seen with the girl at DIA. A Denver police officer assigned to the local FBI Task Force located Larson and arrested him. Agents rescued the girl, who was uninjured, and made arrangements to have her reunited with her family in Fresno, which she was later on Monday night.According to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, Larson is a white supremacist and a well-known advocate for pedophilia. In 2017, Larson ran for political office as an independent, seeking to become a member of the Virginia House of Delegates representing District 31. He went on to lose the race.In December 2008, while living in Boulder, Larson sent a detailed email to the U.S. Secret Service threatening to kill the President of the United States. At the time, George Bush was the outgoing president and Barack Obama was the incoming president. Larson pleaded guilty in federal court. In October 2009, he was sentenced to 16 months in a federal prison and wound up serving 14 months.Larson is scheduled to have a court hearing in Denver on December 24. DEL MAR, Calif., (KGTV)— “Enter at your own risk”— That’s what the signs at Del Mar Beach say after at least three shark sightings in as many days. There was also one sighting off the Coronado Coast around noon Wednesday.Del Mar is precisely the escape Kathleen Pierce and her family were after. “We have been suffering in the hundred-degree weather in Temecula so we thought we’d come down to the beach,” Pierce said. It was a great plan until she saw the warning sign at the beach entrance. ADVISORY: SHARK SIGHTED. ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK.“I saw the sign, and I had to pause,” Pierce said. But they jumped into the water anyway, because she figured, the likelihood of actually coming up onto a shark was low. But a few minutes in, her son spotted a few. “When the wave was about to crash, I just saw all of them swimming in a group,” her son Drew said. Drew said they were only about three to four feet long, so he ignored them. His friend was frightened and ran to the shore. “The sharks that were seen off of Del Mar, based on the size, we know that they were juveniles,” Research Biologist at the Southwest Fisheries Science Center, Heidi Dewar said. Dewar said if the sharks are under six feet, they are juveniles. They eat smaller fish, so they pose no threat to people. It is their parents we need to worry about. “If I saw a sub-adult or anything over 6 feet, I would probably personally get out of the water,” Dewar laughed. Pierce decided to say and keep an eye on her children at all times, because leaving early to get back to triple-digit temperatures, was not part of her plan. “If nothing else, we would just go a little bit more shallow water,” Pierce laughed. “We would not turn around and go back.”Dewar’s best advice to avoid shark attacks:1. During the novel coronavirus pandemic, there are a lot of unknowns, particularly when it comes to a vaccine.Across the country and around the world, there are dozens of vaccine trials underway as researchers race to find an end to the pandemic.In the U.S., two of those vaccine trials are showing early promising results. The Pfizer and Moderna vaccine trials are showing an above 90% efficacy rate.In Colorado, roughly 270 volunteers signed up for the Moderna vaccine trial through UC Health, including Michael Rouse.“There was a call out for minorities, especially African-Americans, and I felt it was time that we stepped up so I volunteered,” Rouse said. “It wasn’t a tough decision at all. I have faith in science. I have faith in medicine.”Rouse is a 66-year-old retiree who says he understands the hesitancy people of color have, but he believes it’s important for them to be involved in this vaccine trial to prove it’s safe.“Without people stepping up, we’re never going to find a solution,” Rouse said. “Our participation is what’s going to help save millions of lives.”Rouse said he received his first COVID-19 vaccine on Aug. 17 and his second shot a month later. He didn’t feel any initial pain or soreness from the injection.However, several hours afterward he did feel aches, nausea, a headache and a sour stomach that lasted for roughly 12 hours the first time and 24 hours the second time. Because of these side effects, Rouse is convinced he received the real vaccine and not a placebo.Now, he checks in about once a week using a mobile app on his phone to answer questions about his experience.“We have to do something to stop this because it’s getting out of control and like any vaccine, there is going to be some symptoms or some side effects, but we need this vaccine because this pandemic is just getting worse. The virus itself is not going to just disappear,” Rouse said. “I definitely think it’s going to be a defining moment in the world and those of us who can help find a solution should be proud of the fact that we helped find a solution to this defining moment.”Despite this, Rouse said he is still being cautious, wearing a mask in public, social distancing and staying home whenever possible.“I’m living as if I didn’t get the shot but I’m not afraid to go out and do things,” Rouse said.In an effort to educate the public about his experience and reassure them that the vaccine is safe, Rouse recently wrote a guest commentary talking about his experience with the vaccine.He hopes that once a vaccine does come out, his experience and that of the hundreds of other volunteers will encourage people to get it."I think it’s so important that we get positive news out about the vaccine. (KGTV) — A Descanso man has finished carving a Buddha statue into a granite boulder in his backyard. “Buddha is in every tree just looking at you like every rock,” said artist Duncan McFetridge. “It’s connected to our saving our environment — all life is sacred.” Duncan McFetridge says it took six months to carve the 6-foot tall Buddha into the granite. “It occurred to me that this was a perfect time and place to carve a representation of Buddha,” added McFetridge, who was heavily involved in the preservation of the Cleveland National Forest. He estimates he chipped away more than 750 pounds using a combination of hand tools and power tools on the stone carving while working in 4-hour increments every day. “These are incredibly difficult,” said McFetridge pointing to cinnamon roll-sized circles adorning the carving's head, “each one takes about a day.” The 78-year-old says someone recently visited and figured out the Buddha carving faces due east, sticking with an ancient tradition of Buddha statues facing east to represent the moment of the enlightenment. “I didn’t know, I was totally unconscious of this,” said McFetridge, who adds he just picked the rock face because of its accessibility.McFetridge says hundreds have already inquired about visiting the statue to which he says he encourages it. “The Buddha wants to be known,” said McFetridge. 1390
