In The Collector's Fortress, guests will be able to help save the Guardians of the Galaxy.Lunch will be served in the Pym Test Kitchen, where scientist Hank Pym, aka Ant Man and Giant Man, will use his Pym Particles to change the size of various snacks.RELATED: California Adventure's 'Avengers Campus' will need a new ride systemOr guests can get a meal at Shawarma Palace, which is a nod to one of the Avengers movies in which Tony Stark took his superhero team to the "shawarma joint" two blocks from an epic battle.Iron Man will show off a new armor, the Mark 80. Doctor Strange will train guests in the "mystic arts" at his "ancient Sanctum."Guests will also see the villain Taskmaster on the campus as well as heroes the Black Widow, Thor, Captain America and Captain Marvel.RELATED: Review: 'Rise of the Resistance' fulfills missing 'Star Wars' feel at Galaxy's Edge"When we set out to create these extraordinary Super Hero experiences across the globe, we designed a new Spider-Man attraction for Disney California Adventure park in an immersive land with amazing character experiences," said Scot Drake, portfolio creative executive for Walt Disney Imagineering. "We also crafted an original story that ties all the experiences together in ways that are authentic to these characters. We worked side-by-side with teams that brought the Avengers films and comics to life to create a place that champions the next generation of heroes."Just as Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, offered up his Manhattan mansion in Marvel comic books to the Avengers, the character provides the campus in the theme park, according to the story.Guests first begin at Worldwide Engineering Brigade, also known as WEB, where they will see Peter Parker, the secret identity of Spider-Man, who has been recruited by Tony Stark to make new inventions to help the guests become super heroes.RELATED: Disney World, Disneyland increase prices for annual passesAvengers Headquarters is central to the attraction, and it is where guests will catch members of the Avengers heading into action. The mission for guests is to team up with Spider-Man to help round up renegade Spider-Bots before they rampage through the campus. ANAHEIM, Calif. (CNS) -- An online petition urging a delay of the scheduled reopening of the Disneyland Resort due to the risk of guests contracting coronavirus has acquired more than 26,000 signatures as of this weekend. The change.org petition was started by a user called "We Are Anonymous" and states that because COVID-19 cases are rising, Disneyland Resort is "endangering cast members and guests to be exposed to (coronavirus)" with its planned reopening of Disneyland and California Adventure on July 17. The Downtown Disney shopping district is scheduled to reopen July 9."There are more cases now than when the parks closed on March 13th, 2020," the petition said. "Health Officials have stated that the 2nd wave of Covid-19 will be worse. So reopening before the 2nd wave even hits us is irresponsible and greedy."RELATED: Disneyland announces plans to begin phased openingIn a blog post on the Disney parks web site, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Pamela Hymel said on May 5, "...our focus remains on the health and safety of the entire Disney community -- including the wellbeing of the cast members who are caring for and securing our parks and resorts during the closure."We have already implemented a number of enhanced health and safety measures, such as increasing the frequency of cleaning and disinfection in work areas, adjusting practices to promote physical distancing, and providing cast with access to necessary PPE, including face coverings."Hymel also said physical distancing and a reduction in the number of guests allowed in the parks and guests undergoing temperature screenings before entry are among the safety measures being implemented.UC Irvine associate professor of population health and disease prevention, Andrew Noymer, told the Los Angeles Times the risk of spreading the virus at Disneyland can be reduced by following these measures.RELATED: When your favorite San Diego theme parks, attractions plan to reopen"I don't think Disneyland reopening is an absolute catastrophe, but it's all in the execution, Noymer said. "It won't be, verbatim, the Disneyland we knew last summer."Noymer did acknowledge there are still risks, even with safety protocols in effect.Even assuming everyone masks, how do you eat cotton candy or a snowcone through a mask?" Noymer told The Times. "There will be some unmasking, at least partly."The petition, which was started June 11, calls for Disneyland to reschedule any park opening to an undisclosed later date "when cases of Covid-19 drop and health officials state it is safer for everyone but to still practice social distancing." 2611

As Florida begins to deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Michael, the political campaigns of major candidates in Florida are officially on hold. But political ads continued to run on TV even as many Floridians were running for their lives. One attack ad in particular, paid for by the Republican Party of Florida, was on air criticizing the way Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum handled the city's response to Hurricane Hermine back in 2016.The ad, made in coordination with Republican candidate for Governor Ron Desantis, aired frequently in the days leading up to the storm and was only pulled after Desantis was questioned about it, and the GOP said they would eventually pull it from the airwaves amid criticism from viewers and even state officials.  770

Are you tired? Tired of the lack of normalcy, the closed public spaces, the news that we are trending in the wrong direction with this pandemic?COVID-19 fatigue is a real thing, and it’s affecting billions of people around the world.“It’s a very uncomfortable experience for us as human beings to not have a plan and not know how is this going to turn out,” said Dr. Kaye Hermanson.Hermanson is a clinical psychologist at UC Davis Health and compares the emotional fatigue to climbing a mountain. You have just spent hours hiking up, and just when you think you have hit the peak, you realize it is a false summit and see this daunting second hill in front of you. That sinking feeling knowing you have done so much, yet still have so much longer to go, is what Hermanson says this second spike in COVID-19 numbers can feel like."We’re actually hoping for the absence of something,” said Hermanson. "Not getting sick isn’t quite as reinforcing as something that happens where we’re like, ‘Oh, I did this behavior and it resulted in this good outcome.'"“[Fatigue] can be internal, where you feel like you’ve got these sandbags on your shoulders and you can’t take another step,” added Bob Ciampi.Ciampi is a licensed clinical social worker and says the feeling is something a lot of us are familiar with: burnout. The same kind you might feel at work or at home when you are overwhelmed. To ‘refill the tank,’ many people might go out for a night of fun with friends, or go to the gym, but COVID-19 has closed many of these places nationwide only exacerbating the issue. So, it begs the question: what can we do?“The things that we need to do are be aware of our thinking,” said Dr. Hermanson. "To say I’ll control what I can control. I’ll take it a minute at a time.”“Some people call that bite-sized pieces,” added Ciampi.Ciampi and Hermanson say the idea is to make things more manageable. Instead of looking at the daunting whole, they suggest breaking it up into more attainable parts.Small victories can help give that reinforcement. “It can be a little bit of learned helplessness,” she said. “It’s the idea that in certain circumstances where we feel like nothing we do is good enough, nothing that we do keeps bad things from happening, and so we kind of give up.”Another thing Hermanson and Ciampi suggest is adjusting our mindset or going to therapy.Hermanson says the simple knowledge that millions of other people feel just like us can be empowering and help push us through. 2494

An entire youth football team in Illinois kneeled in protest during the national anthem before their game last weekend.Video of the players from the age 8-and-under Cahokia Quarterback Club football team kneeling during the anthem has gone viral and was met with some backlash online, according to St. Louis's KTVI-TV.Orlando Gooden, the team's coach, told KTVI the protest was the kids' idea and came about when one of them asked him about the protests and riots that have shaken St. Louis in the past week since police officer Jason Stockley was found not guilty in the shooting death of Anthony Lamar Smith. 623
