So much so, the twin brothers, Cade and Zachary Griffith, both just committed to play water polo in college.The brothers say their decision on where to go to school was tough and overwhelming, but they both decided on Austin College, in Sherman, Texas. “So lucky; we got lucky on that, says the twin’s mom, Lisa Griffith. Their choice was unexpected, because they'd never heard of Austin College before hiring the college athlete recruiting company NCSA. NCSA recruiters knew of Austin College’s plan to start a new water polo program this fall and that they were in need of team members. Lisa Strasman, president and COO of NCSA, and her team help student-athletes navigate the recruitment process. “A lot of kids think the only schools that offer their sport are those they see on ESPN,” Strasman says. “Reality [is] there's so many college opportunities across the country.” NCSA and other companies like it take the student's GPA, sport and education interests and pour through thousands of schools to find the ones that may be a good fit. They then make videos introducing student-athletes to coaches. “People think that college coaches will just discover them. In most cases, that's not reality,” Strasman says. “It's very important that student athletes are proactive."The Griffith's paid ,000 for each of their sons, but NCSA helps families for free, if their parents qualify as low-income. Many of NCSA’s employees are former athletes or college coaches. Online reviews about athlete recruitment companies are mixed. Some families say they have successfully navigated the recruitment process themselves. "I think everybody's situation is different. For us, it was definitely an investment," says Lisa Griffith. Former Trump presidential campaign chairman Paul Manafort was sentenced to 47 months in federal prison after having a plea bargain revoked after Special Counsel Robert Mueller's team claimed Manafort was not cooperative with Mueller's investigation. Mueller's team asked for 19-25 years. Manafort's sentence is the longest so far handed down by a judge during Mueller's investigation into Russian meddling into 2016 election. On Aug. 21, Manafort was found guilty on eight federal charges, while a judge declared a mistrial on 10 other criminal counts. The charges claims Manafort was guilty of conspiracy to defraud the United States, money laundering, failing to register as a foreign lobbyist, making false statements to investigators, and witness tampering, the Washington Post reported. He then pleaded guilty to two charges of conspiracy in another federal court. He will be sentenced for those crimes next week. Google is expanding its mental health screening tools.Dr. David Feinberg, the head of Google Health, calls the impact of the pandemic a perfect storm that's led to more psychological issues.“So, we're seeing a lot of people coming to Google with questions about anxiety, about depression, and even if we go pre-COVID,” said Feinberg. “We had 48 million Americans suffering from anxiety disorders. We've now seen that increase.”According to the latest information from the Census Bureau, that increase has been drastic. It found one in three Americans are showing signs of clinical depression or anxiety, or both.Here's how the new online tool works: If you Google search “anxiety,” a panel will appear on the right side of your browser. It has information on disorders and a link to “take a self-assessment.”After answering seven simple questions, you'll be given a score ranging from minimal to severe signs of anxiety.“So, there's a lot of resources for people to stay connected, to find out if they're suffering, and to get help when appropriate,” said Feinberg.
