Finding the right child care can be a frustrating -- and expensive -- process for parents around the world, from New York to Nairobi.Access to adequate child care for all has become a "global" need, said Shelley Clark, a demographer and professor of sociology at McGill University in Canada, who has studied child care and other family dynamics."We can think of iconic images like The Atlantic monthly cover of the mom carrying the kid in the briefcase to work and how absurd that's supposed to be to us, but then when we think of women in lower-income countries, you think of the mom selling goods at the market with a kid strapped to her back, and you think, 'Well, that's not a problem for her, because she can easily combine child care and work,' " Clark said."There's this perception out there that for the kinds of work that women do in lower-income countries, it's easier to combine child care and work," she said. "The fact is, it's quite challenging for these moms, also."Clark added that families in lower-income countries spend a significant chunk of their income -- about 17% of some women's average earnings -- on child care services, similar to those in wealthier countries.Families living across 30 wealthy nations in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development spend on average about 15% of their net income on child care costs, according to a 2016 report from the group, an association of 35 countries founded to improve economic development and social well-being around the world.Yet the percentage of a family's income spent on child care costs varies drastically by country: Couples spend 33.8% in the United Kingdom, but in Korea, Austria, Greece and Hungary, couples spend less than 4% due to government benefits and programs. Those findings came from the OECD's database on tax and benefits across countries compared with average net income of families in those countries. Here is a sampling of what child care looks like around the world. 1984

FRESNO, Calif. (KGTV) - The former Camp Pendleton Marine accused of supporting a Christmas Day terror attack at San Francisco's Pier 39 popular tourist destination was sentenced Monday to 15 years in prison.Everitt Aaron Jameson, 26, pleaded guilty to the plot in June. He supported radical ISIS jihadi beliefs, wrote social media posts supporting terrorism, communicated with people he believed supported his views, and offered to provide services to them with a tow truck, according to a report written by FBI Special Agent Christopher McKinney.A confidential source alerted the FBI last fall to a Facebook account Jameson ran, agents said.  Jameson “liked” and “loved” posts that were pro-ISIS and pro-terrorist, the source told the FBI. Among the posts was a picture of Santa Claus standing in New York with a box of dynamite.RELATED: Ex-Marine who planned Christmas Day terror attack pleads guiltyJameson met with an FBI undercover employee he believed to be associated with ISIS and described his interest in planning and undertaking a violent attack in San Francisco, the report said.Agent McKinney said James specifically mentioned Pier 39 in San Francisco because he had been there before and knew it was a densely crowded area.According to the undercover agent, Jameson said he wanted to use explosives and “funnel” people into a location where he could inflict casualties. He said he needed ammunition, powder, tubing, nails, timers, and remote detonators. Jameson planned to go to the mountains and build the devices at a remote campground, then store them at his home in Modesto, said officials.A search warrant was executed at Jameson’s Central Valley home on Dec. 20. Investigators found his will and a handwritten letter. Jameson said he did not have or need an escape plan because he was ready to die, according to the report.RELATED: Father of terror suspect details son's recent troublesJameson also voiced support for the October 31, 2017 terror attack in New York City during which a driver used his truck to kill eight people and mentioned the 2015 San Bernardino attack, the report said."Jameson put his fellow Americans at risk by supporting ISIS and planning an attack on behalf of the terrorist organization," said Assistant Attorney General for National Security John C. Demers in a statement Monday. "This is unacceptable, and I am grateful for the hardworking agents and prosecutors who are responsible for this successful result."Agent McKinney said Jameson attended basic recruit training for the U.S. Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton in 2009. He earned a ‘sharpshooter’ rifle qualification and a National Service Medal. Jameson was discharged for fraudulent enlistment due to an undisclosed history of asthma. 2767

Football coach Derrick Clark was a convicted drug dealer when he was hired two seasons ago for New Haven Endeavour Middle School in New Haven, Michigan. Now he’s in jail facing serious sex charges.  School Superintendent Todd Robinson talked with Jim Kiertzner, investigator for Scripps station WXYZ in Detroit and said he knew Clark had some criminal past, saying “Not to the extent that you’re sharing with me now.”  Robinson would not say what his understanding of it was. “I don’t want to make any more comment about it at this time.” Robinson also would not answer if he would still hire him if he knew what he knows today.State records show Clark was convicted of drug possession and running a drug house and was on probation from 2009 to 2014. Clark now faces charges of third degree criminal sexual conduct, pandering and racketeering in Macomb County.  Police said Clark reportedly sold his girlfriend for sex with online ads dozens of times over several months and threatened her and kids to go to Child Protective Services. At least one “John,” a man who paid for sex, is cooperating with police.John Wallace, who lives next door to the school says, “That sounds to me like another Nassar case.”Other parents said they are upset.Clark was hired through a contracting firm called EDUStaff in Grand Rapids.  The company president, Clark Galloway, sent us a statement that says criminal background checks and approval are up to school districts and Clark is not the only employee they’ve supplied: 1572

Following the FBI's admission that it failed to properly act on a tip on Jan. 5 about the man who killed 17 people at a Florida high school, Governor Rick Scott called for FBI Director Christopher Wray to resign."We constantly promote 'see something, say something,' and a courageous person did just that to the FBI. And the FBI failed to act," Scott said in a statement. "'See something, say something' is an incredibly important tool and people must have confidence in the follow through from law enforcement. The FBI Director needs to resign."Read Scott's full statement below.Today, Governor Rick Scott made the following statement regarding the FBI’s admission that they failed to take action after receiving information on January 5, 2018, regarding “[Nikolas] Cruz’s gun ownership, desire to kill people, erratic behavior, and disturbing social media posts, as well as the potential of him conducting a school shooting.”Governor Scott said, “The FBI’s failure to take action against this killer is unacceptable. The FBI has admitted that they were contacted last month by a person who called to inform them of Cruz’s ‘desire to kill people,’ and ‘the potential of him conducting a school shooting.’“Seventeen innocent people are dead and acknowledging a mistake isn’t going to cut it. An apology will never bring these 17 Floridians back to life or comfort the families who are in pain. The families will spend a lifetime wondering how this could happen, and an apology will never give them the answers they desperately need.“We constantly promote ‘see something, say something,’ and a courageous person did just that to the FBI. And the FBI failed to act. ‘See something, say something’ is an incredibly important tool and people must have confidence in the follow through from law enforcement. The FBI Director needs to resign.”Nikolas Cruz, who has confessed to police to being the shooter, showed patterns of racism online and also promised to harm people with assault rifles. 2000

Former Trump campaign aide Sam Nunberg arrived at District Court in Washington, DC, Friday morning, where he is expected to deliver federal grand jury testimony as part of special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation.Nunberg is the first recognizable Trump campaign affiliate to appear at a hearing related to Mueller's investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election by walking through the main entrance of the federal courthouse and heading to the grand jury area. Other witnesses have presumably testified before Mueller's grand jury since it started meeting last July, but none have made as public an appearance.  641
