SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The ridesharing company, Lyft, is donating hundreds of thousands of dollars in ride credits to immigration groups throughout the country, including one in San Diego County. The company made the donation announcement on Monday, donating 0,000, calling the campaign "America is an Idea, Not a Geography." The Minority Humanitarian Foundation in Spring Valley received roughly ,000 in ride credits. The foundation's founder, Mark Lane, says the company's donation is a game changer for his organization. Lane explains that the money previously spent on rides can now go towards other things like food, clothing and other supplies. 10News spoke to multiple Lyft drivers in San Diego who said they wouldn't mind providing rides to migrants, as long as their pay didn't change. A few Lyft users told 10News they don't agree with Lyft's donation but said they would still continue to use the service.During the month of July, Lyft is also matching donations to RAICES up to ,000. According to a new 10News/Union-Tribune scientific poll released Tuesday evening, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders has moved into the lead with 25%. In another shakeup, former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomerg surged into second place at 21%.Former Vice President had been the leader in each 10News/Union-Tribune poll taken this election cycle until this latest result. In the new poll, Biden fell to third place at 15%, with former South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg at 12%. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - This record hot summer was the first that San Diegans had to pay the state's new high-usage charge on their electric bills. It led to bills as high as 0, and complaints pouring into San Diego Gas and Electric. Now, the utility says the charge - meant to discourage high use - isn't working and should be eliminated."We want to move forward to eliminate this charge and help our customers," said SDG&E spokesman Wes Jones.Jones said the utility understands the frustration over summertime bills. Nearly 81,000 households were hit with the high-usage charge in August, a month with record heat.RELATED: Making It in San Diego: Families stunned by high electric bills"We heard from folks that they needed that much energy to run their A/C and tried to stay cool," Jones sadi. "We think that's very important. We want to make sure they are comfortable."SGG&E now plans to ask the state Public Utilities Commission to eliminate the charge altogether."You hopefully will see a reduced shock and awe bill," Jones said.But questions remain about the proposal. The high-usage tier is just 7 cents more per kilowatt hour than the next lower tier. SDG&E also wants to expand options, like qualifying customers with plans that have lower rates - like the ones for those with electric cars. SDG&E also proposes to change its scheduled cash credits to all hit in August to help with the year's most expensive months.The utility will also ask the Public Utilities Commission to review its baseline rates - which sets tiers from the coast to the mountains. SDG&E also hopes to combine summer and winter prices for a lower year round rate. SDG&E plans to submit the proposal to the commission in the coming months. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The trolley's Mission Valley stadium site will be closed for two years due to construction on Aztec Stadium.MTS' stadium station will begin the two-year closure on Sunday, Nov. 1, as crews continue to transform the stadium land into a stadium for San Diego State University. The closure will impact the Sycuan Green Line.The station plans to reopen in 2022.The station is a vital connection between SDSU's main campus and the stadium. Once construction is completed, the stop will continue to serve SDSU students, faculty, and staff traveling between the school's main campus and the new SDSU West site.The station has operated adjacent to the stadium since 1997, greeting visitors for Super Bowl XXXII, the World Series, numerous sporting events for the Aztecs, Padres, and Chargers, and concerts for bands like The Rolling Stones, Metallica, Elton John, Beyonce, and more. 901
