"This settlement gives every single woman who saw Tyndall a choice in how they want to participate and hold USC accountable, while also forcing the school to change to ensure this doesn't happen again. Austin issued a statement saying the preliminary approval of the settlement "is a very important step forward in healing our community. Local police have noted a disturbing increase in the amount of animals found to have been shot and dumped left to die.Previously, Scripps station WTVF in Nashville reported a?spike in the number of canine thefts in Middle Tennessee that was possibly connected to a local theft ring. Now, rather than just disappearing, the dogs are being killed.One beagle did survive. It was shot in the head and found dumped in a bag. Thankfully, veterinarians in nearby Winchester were able to save the dog.But others were not so lucky. Concerned citizens have sent in photos of dogs found shot and then dumped by the side of the road in a half-dozen middle Tennessee counties."It think it's horrible and we need to figure out why it's happening and who is doing it," said veterinarian Allison Fields at the Hermitage Animal Clinic in Davidson County.The dogs were shot with guns in more rural counties. Now, many wonder if some of them were among the many stolen in recent months."This is a big problem of people taking dogs from people coming into the yard and just snatching them out of yards and just taking them," said Earl Stouzenberger, who lost his dog Leia, earlier this year.Police have been checking for chips in the dead dogs hoping to locate owners."Absolutely, I'm sure they have. Animal Control or police stations will have a scanner," Fields said. But identifying the dogs doesn't solve the riddle of why they were shot and often dumped in public places. She was 70.Engel died Friday in Princeton, New Jersey, said her friend and executor, John Quilty. The cause of death was unknown because she was a Christian Scientist and didn't see doctors, Quilty said Monday.Engel was best known for her role as Georgette on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," whose character was improbably destined to marry pompous anchorman Ted Baxter, played by Ted Knight.Engel also had recurring roles on "Everybody Loves Raymond" and "Hot in Cleveland." She was a five-time Emmy nominee, receiving two nods for the late Moore's show and three for "Everybody Loves Raymond."Engel's prolific career included guest appearances on a variety of shows, including "The Love Boat," ''Fantasy Island," ''Coach" and "Two and a Half Men." Live Nation, the parent company of Ticket Master and the owner of dozens of concert venues across the country, said in a press release Wednesday that it was working with local governments in the hopes that its venues could be used as polling places in the upcoming election.So far, Live Nation says that four of its concert venues — The Wiltern and Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, Emo’s in Austin and the Buckhead Theatre in Atlanta — will be used as polling stations this November. A fifth venue, The Fillmore in Philadelphia, "is in the final stages of the vetting process."In addition, the company says it is working with local officials across the country to "determine the feasibility" of using 100-plus Live Nation venues as polling places. Live Nation did not specify which locations were being considered, or how many venues they believed would be approved as polling locations.Live Nation added it was partnering with More Than A Vote in their efforts to expand polling locations. More Than A Vote is a coalition of Black athletes led by LeBron James that are aiming to increase participation in the 2020 election among minorities.As part of an agreement to restart the 2020 NBA season, James and other players pushed for the league to adopt a provision in which it would explore ways that teams could use their arenas as polling places during the 2020 election.
