SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diegans will soon have four new restaurants for dining along the San Diego Bay, as Mayor Kevin Faulconer joined Port of San Diego officials and The Brigantine Inc. for the ribbon cutting ceremony Monday for Portside Pier. Portside Pier is an over-the-water dining complex that has been years in the making. It will have four restaurants -- Brigantine on the Bay, Miguel's Cocina, Ketch Grill & Taps and Portside Coffee & Gelato. The dining complex replaced Anthony's Fish Grotto, a staple for 52 years along the bay. The dining complex is now owned by The Brigantine Inc. The restaurants are opening amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The design of the restaurants have plenty of outdoor space to seat about 500 people, with all social distancing guidelines in place. The complex has capacity for about 1,000 people, once pandemic restrictions are lifted. Portside Pier is the first of several projects along the waterfront, to improve and update the embarcadero. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County health officials have warned at least three local churches about having services indoors. The county sent out three letters to Skyline Church in La Mesa; Lighthouse Baptist Church in Lemon Grove; and Awaken Church's campus on Balboa Avenue in Kearny Mesa.The letters to Skyline and Lighthouse were very similar, saying indoor services create "significant risk of spreading COVID-19," encouraging the churches to move their in-person services outside. The third document is a cease-and-desist letter sent to Awaken Church ordering the church to stop indoor operations. All three letters are dated July 17 and are signed by County Public Health Officer Dr. Wilma Wooten. The letters state that failure to comply with these orders can mean criminal misdemeanor citations with a fine of ,000 for each violation. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego County reported a record new 1,802 coronavirus cases on Friday, bringing the region's total to 78,159 cases thus far.The new cases resulted in an 8% positive rate out of 21,671 reported tests for the county's daily tally. No new deaths were reported on Friday, as the death toll sits at 996.The new case totals come as public and federal health officials urge the public to keep gatherings limited and small this Thanksgiving and not to travel.Hospitalizations in the county remained at 580 on Friday, while ICU cases rose slightly from 166 to 173 — both of which have nearly doubled since a month earlier, according to the county's data.There were 82 community outbreaks in San Diego County as of Friday. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego County officials say they are taking additional steps regarding employers linked to outbreaks.Supervisor Nathan Fletcher said the county will update its public health order to state "entities shall notify employees of an outbreak that occurred at a physical location where they work."Fletcher added that the county believes most businesses are acting responsibly and notifying employees. But even if there is political harmony, the challenges facing the city are grand.They are taking over with the region in a mandatory stay at home order due to the virus.
