The game’s art style is dressed up to dazzle, the gameplay is simple and approachable, and the music is among the best of any Switch game to date. With every preceding moment, however, this game’s chores began to outweigh its charm, making it a paper-thin adventure for Nintendo’s most iconic character and one of the more disappointing gaming experiences of 2020.The Paper Mario series is known for its turn-based combat, and this entry continues that tradition. Even though it introduces a new ring-based battlefield that requires enemies to be lined up prior to the attack, it maintains the typical exchange of blows until HP is depleted. Rotating enemies is extremely repetitive, but it’s a lack of a leveling-up system that truly makes the combat feel like a drag. The absence of a skill tree equivalent not only creates for less attention to detail in battles, but it also had me wanting to avoid them altogether. Rather than gaining experience points, you’re rewarded with coins that allow for purchasing weapons (that eventually break down) and extra health, but with the game’s battles being so easy, I rarely felt the need to purchase anything. Boss battles provide a slightly tougher challenge, but after a few failed runs, even they begin to feel like busywork, making me long for a meaty JRPG experience with a purpose. 1427

(WXYZ) — Nearly 100,000 children tested positive for COVID-19 in the last two weeks of July, according to a new report from the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Children’s Hospital Association.According to the report, 97,078 kids tested positive for coronavirus between July 16 and July 30, which is nearly 1/3 of the total confirmed cases of children in the U.S. since the beginning of the pandemic.The report found that around 338,000 children tested positive for coronavirus since the pandemic began. Over the last two weeks of July, the number of positive tests increased 40%.According to the report, the academy looked at state numbers that were considered children. The age ranges vary by state, and in Michigan, it includes anyone 19 and younger, but the state recently started reporting age groups 0-9 and 10-19. (KGTV) — Texas Border Patrol agents found themselves caring for an 18-month-old child after her mother was taken to the hospital after crossing the border illegally.The infant was taken into Border Patrol's care on Tuesday after a pregnant Honduran woman traveling with the girl was caught crossing the border, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.The woman was experiencing abdominal pain and taken to Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center. While the mother received care, agents looked after the child at Uvalde Border Patrol Station until her mother was released.“I am proud of the agents and staff who continue to show great compassion during this humanitarian crisis on our southern border,” Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Felix Chavez said in a release. “However, our agents are continually pulled from their enforcement duties to watch over people at hospitals, and in this case a child while her mother was receiving care.”The mother was eventually allowed to leave from the hospital and reunited with her child, CBP said. (KGTV/AP) - California Attorney General Xavier Becerra filed a lawsuit Tuesday against the Trump administration over a decision to include a citizenship question on the upcoming U.S. Census.On Monday, the U.S. Commerce Department announced the reinstatement of the citizenship status question for the 2020 census. The question has not been a part of the census since World War II.Commerce Department officials said adding the question will help the Justice Department enforce the Voting Rights Act, which protects minority voting rights. It said that between 1820 and 1950, almost every decennial census asked a question on citizenship in some form.“Secretary [Wilbur] Ross has determined that reinstatement of a citizenship question on the 2020 decennial census questionnaire is necessary to provide complete and accurate census block level data,” officials said in a press release issued Monday.The population count taken every 10 years is more than an academic exercise. It's required by the Constitution and used to determine the number of seats each state has in the House as well as how federal funds are distributed to local communities. It helps communities determine where to build everything from schools and grocery stores to hospitals.A coalition of state attorneys general, including Becerra, urged the department last month to not add such a question, saying it could lower participation among immigrants and cause a population undercount.In an op-ed published on the San Francisco Chronicle website, Becerra said a citizenship question “would discourage noncitizens and their citizen family members from responding to the census, resulting in a less accurate population count.”Becerra also added: “California, with its large immigrant communities, would be disproportionately harmed by depressed participation in the 2020 census. An undercount would threaten at least one of California’s seats in the House of Representatives (and, by extension, an elector in the electoral college.)
