Spain and Portugal faced another exceptionally hot day Saturday as a heat wave that has killed three people in Spain threatened to raise temperatures to record levels.Large areas of Portugal are on red alert for heat, including the capital, Lisbon. Temperatures will reach 45 degrees Celsius (113 degrees Fahrenheit) in parts of the south-central Alentejo region, according to the country's weather agency, IPMA.Forecasters at the UK Met Office have said temperatures in the Iberian Peninsula this weekend "could beat the all-time continental European record of 48C," which is a little over 118 degrees Fahrenheit, before the mercury starts to dip.That record was set in the Greek capital, Athens, in July 1977. St. Louis’ top prosecutor has charged a white husband and wife with felony unlawful use of a weapon for displaying guns during a racial injustice protest outside their mansion. Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner announced the charges Monday against Mark and Patricia McCloskey.Both are personal injury attorneys and in their 60s. The McCloskeys’ actions during the June 28 protest drew praise from some who said they were legally defending their .15 million home, but scorn from others who said they risked bloodshed.Several hundred protesters were marching to the mayor’s home, just a few blocks away.Mark McCloskey told CNN's Chris Cuomo that he feared for his life."I was a person scared for my life, protecting my wife, my home, my hearth, my livelihood, I was a victim of a mob that came through the gate. Some members of a large group of migrants who tried to rush the US border from Mexico, prompting the closure of a major border crossing in San Diego, will be deported to their home countries, according to Mexican authorities.About 500 migrants on the Mexican side of the border overwhelmed police blockades near the San Ysidro Port of Entry Sunday afternoon, two journalists at the scene in Tijuana told CNN.Tijuana police arrested 39 people in connection with the attempt to cross the border illegally, the agency said in a statement on Facebook.It said they would be reported to Mexican immigration authorities.Mexico's Interior Ministry earlier said those identified as having tried to cross would be processed for deportation to their home countries. 762
SOLANA BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) -- A new outdoor art museum showcasing art from around the world is opening in Solana Beach. Called the Art Alley on Cedros, the museum is free to the public. The grand opening of the new alley will be held during the last Cedros Stroll of the summer.The first exhibit is surf-themed and will feature 12 surfboards designed by various international artists displayed along the alley. The entire museum was designed to withstand the elements and, after its opening, will never close. The grand opening of the alley will be held on September 26 from 5 to 8 p.m. at 320 South Cedros Avenue in Solana Beach. Music will continue until 10 p.m. 674
Sounds of gunfire prompted emergency calls and a lockdown at a North Carolina high school, but a public information officer says there is currently no evidence of an active shooter.Officials with the Pender County Sheriffs' Office are still searching Topsail High School as a precaution, and Pender Schools remain on lockdown.The high school went into lockdown at 6:30 a.m. ET due to reports of the sounds of gunfire. Pender Schools confirmed in a tweet that it was investigating an active shooter at Topsail High School at about 8 a.m. It added that all of the district's campuses on the "eastern side of Pender County" are on lockdown.Pender Schools later confirmed that the noises "from the top of the building" were mistaken for gunfire.
