SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Border officials say they have received enough funding to replace 100 miles of border fencing along the U.S.-Mexico border.The Trump Administration will put forth about .6 billion through the 2018 Congressional appropriations.  The new border wall provides a comprehensive system of wall, lighting, and technologies, Acting Commissioner Ronald Vitiello said during a press conference Friday.In San Diego, a total of 28 miles of border barrier will be replaced. Fourteen miles of "dilapidated" border wall constructed with landing mats will be replaced with new steel bollard wall, according to Vitiello. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Boulevard Fitness in University Heights has closed its doors following a letter from the city threatening expensive fines and to force the business to close.The gym stayed open in the face of local coronavirus-related restrictions on indoor activities for fitness centers for more than a month, according to a letter from City Attorney Mara Elliott."To date, evidence we have reviewed shows your business has been out of compliance for more than 45 days. If our office chooses to remedy the violation by pursuing an unfair business practices action, you and your business could be subject to fines of ,500 a day for each violation and orders to close," Elliott's letter on Tuesday stated.RELATED: Businesses to begin outdoor services at San Diego parksIn a letter sent to the gym's members on Wednesday, Boulevard Fitness said it has temporarily closed "due to current fiscal situations.""We are not sure when this closure period will end but we will be [sic] continuously monitor this and update you when appropriate," the gym's letter read. "However, we are working closely with our legal counsel to get in compliance with public health orders so that we can open up again soon."Boulevard Fitness owner Shawn Gilbert told ABC 10News back in July that staying open is a matter of survival."I took a huge financial hit in May. Money out of my pocket that's never coming back. We have bills to pay, we have rent to pay,” Gilbert told ABC 10News. This is reportedly the first case of its kind referred to the City Attorney's office."For more than a month, Boulevard Fitness ignored the county's orders to stop endangering the health of its members and the public. My office stepped in and got quick compliance the same way we did with the Banker's Hill party house -- by laying out the fines and penalties we could seek if they continued breaking the law, " Elliott said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — As hundreds of Regal Cinemas in the United States face the potential for closure, other movie businesses are thriving.Cineworld, the parent company for Regal Cinemas, tweeted Sunday, saying “We can confirm we are considering the temporary closure of our U.K. and US cinemas, but a final decision has not yet been reached. Once a decision has been made we will update all staff and customers as soon as we can.”Conversely, a locally owned San Diego theater is thriving during this time. Douglas Yeagley owns Cinema Under the Stars, a small, outdoor Mission Hills movie theater. You can’t do live music, you can’t do anything like that, you have to be in your car or something like that to see a performance of some nature, so this particular works well because you are super safe here, open-air,” said Yeagley.He said they’ve had to change a few aspects of business, including cutting seats from 62 to 42 per showing, spacing seats out for social distancing, cleaning seats twice between each showing, and also requiring face masks when standing. Even with the changes, they sell out most nights.Yeagley said he’s been to a few indoor movies since the pandemic and noticed the lack of others inside the theater, noting that there are a few key factors keeping people away from the indoor movie setting. The indoor location is a large factor, but also the delay of the release of major pictures is keeping people away.“There’s got to be a reason to come to that movie and you have to have an interest in that movie,” he said.The announcement from Regal Cinemas comes shortly after the announcement that the release of the latest Bond film would be delayed from November of 2020 to April of 2021 and the filming of many major pictures is delayed.In San Diego County, indoor movie theaters are able to operate at either 25% capacity or 100 people, whichever is fewer. While the indoor movie industry is taking a hit right now, Yeagley said he expects it to bounce back eventually, however it will take time and could look different once it recuperates.“I think so because people like to escape and that’s what you do in a movie. You quit thinking about it, are present for two hours, focused on something. That’s enjoyable. I can’t imagine people not wanting that.” 2581
