"You can’t update that stuff; it’s history.”It was all found in dumpsters at McKinley Elementary.“I think they’re doing a great disservice to themselves and a lot of people," Knight said.Knight is homeschooling her 5-year-old daughter this year. The supplies she found is saving her thousands of dollars.“I might have saved a little more than ,000," she said. “I understand updating books, I get that. But can we donate these books?”Knight also found tests results from former students and personal information — student ID numbers, addresses, and phone numbers.“I understand if maybe it was a mistake but whose mistake was it?" parent Carolyn Trude said. "Are they going to be punished for this? Because this is wrong.”Tulsa Public Schools says it’s protocol to shred private information, but sometimes mistakes happen. They encourage community members to bring those materials back to the district.“I'm not a wasteful person but apparently our school boards and our schools are," Knight said.Knight is now ready to start the year without having to spend a lot of money, but wonders if other parents who homeschool their children need help.“If you’re not going to use it, we will," she said. 1805

Two days after President Donald Trump’s visit to the city, Democratic nominee Joe Biden met with members of Jacob Blake’s family on Thursday before hosting a community discussion on race.Ben Crump, a civil rights attorney who is representing the Blake family, said that the former vice president met with Blake's family for nearly 90 minutes. Blake joined for part of the conversation via telephone from his hospital bed, both Crump and Biden confirmed.“The family was grateful for the meeting and was very impressed that the Bidens were so engaged and willing to really listen,” Crump said. “Jacob's mother led them all in prayer for Jacob's recovery. They talked about changing the disparate treatment of minorities in police interactions, the impact of selecting Kamala Harris as a Black woman as his running mate. and Vice President Biden's plans for change. Mr. Blake Sr. talked about the need for systemic reform because the excessive use of force by police against minorities has been going on for far too long.”Biden said that Jacob Blake told him “nothing is going to defeat” him."I had an opportunity to spend some time with Jacob [Blake] on the phone. Tropical Storm Michael formed near the Yucatan Peninsula on Sunday, and it's on track to wallop the United States."The current forecast indicates the storm entering the Gulf of Mexico by Monday morning, strengthening to a hurricane by early Wednesday and likely targeting the Florida panhandle by late Wednesday," CNN meteorologist Gene Norman said.As of 4 p.m. Sunday, Tropical Storm Michael was centered about 130 miles southeast of Cozumel, Mexico, the National Hurricane Center said.But it's so big, people 200 miles away from the center are getting hit with tropical-storm-force winds (which have increased to at least 50 mph)."Strengthening is forecast during the next several days," the hurricane center said.Track the stormBefore Michael hits the United States, it's expected to dump 3 to 7 inches of rain on western Cuba."Isolated maximum amounts of 12 inches are possible in western Cuba," the hurricane center said. "This rainfall could lead to life-threatening flash floods and mudslides in areas of mountainous terrain."Michael's path to the Gulf is also affecting politics in Florida.Democratic gubernatorial nominee Andrew Gillum was scheduled to campaign in South Florida on Monday and Tuesday, but said he is suspending his campaign activity to address preparations for the storm, his campaign said. TWENTYNINE PALMS, Calif. (KGTV) – After a Southern California Navy corpsman suddenly died this summer, his family has been trying to get answers for almost two months. This week, 10News has learned that 30-year-old HM3 Michael Vincent De Leon may have been killed by someone else.10News began looking into the case last week after his father, Jose De Leon, contacted 10News for help. 10News interviewed De Leon over Skype because he and the rest of the family live in Texas. De Leon says his son was stationed at the Twentynine Palms Marine Corps base in San Bernardino County. It was almost two months ago when De Leon says that he was visited by military officers who informed him that his son had died and an investigation was underway.“I gathered my emotions and asked them ‘why?’ or ‘what happened?’ but they couldn't give me anything,” De Leon tells 10News.Since then, the family says they've largely been kept in the dark, but this week 10News learned from a source with close military ties that the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) has confirmed that Michael's death is now being investigated as a homicide. It’s a very different story than what De Leon says he was lead to believe in the hours just after learning of his son’s death when he says the word "suicide" came up from service members on-base.De Leon didn't believe it, claiming there was no history of depression or substance abuse. He says his son was happy and excited about an upcoming deployment.“He was an extrovert. He could walk into a room and make friends,” he told 10News with tears in his eyes.De Leon is a former television news photojournalist. Using his skills, he started his own investigation. This is what he says he learned just 48 hours later from a service member who is close to the case. De Leon tells 10News, “I begged him, ‘Just tell me, did Michael pull the trigger or did someone else?’ There was a long pause and he [replies], ‘Mr. De Leon, someone else pulled the trigger.’"De Leon says that other service members who knew his son said that his son was shot on-base at another corpsman's going-away party in the military housing area. A full week passed, but De Leon says there was still no word from the base about what happened.“It’s a bunch of bureaucrats that are not vested at all in the family,” he adds.He says after formally complaining he finally got a call from an agent with NCIS, which is handling the investigation. De Leon says the agent would only confirm that there was a shooting on-base at a housing unit with corpsmen present and a firearm was produced. It’s now seven weeks later and 10News has verified with our source that agents are officially treating this investigation not as a suicide, but as a homicide. It remains unknown as to whether it was accidental or intentional.10News directly asked NCIS and the base for comment. On Thursday afternoon, a spokesperson for the base sent 10News the following statement:"I spoke with a representative from the Provost Marshall's Office and he has confirmed that the incident is currently still under investigation so the information you inquire is unable to be released at this time. However, I was able to confirm that the base policy for securing firearms for those who live on/work at/visit the military housing area is that all firearms need to be in a secured location in the home and must be in a secure location in order to get a weapon onto base and when being transported to and from the home. Weapons must be registered on the installation. As far as Marines living in the barracks, their firearms need to be stored in a unit armory. It is actually an inspectable item and part of the unit armory policy. I apologize I do not have more information for you at this time. UPDATE 6:04 PMThe bus driver, a 52-year-old man from Whittier, Calif., survived with minor injuries and was speaking with CHP investigators. 10News learned the charter bus originated from El Monte in East Los Angeles and made multiple stops en route to San Ysidro, including Riverside and Murrieta. The bus crashed about 20 miles south of Murrieta in Pala Mesa.Three females, described as Hispanic, were killed in the crash, authorities said.According to officials, a five-year-old male passenger was transported to Riverside University Health Systems Medical Center, about 50 miles north from the scene of the crash.Five other passengers were transported to Palomar Hospital, seven were transported to Temecula Valley Hospital, and five were taken to Inland Valley Hospital. Their conditions are unknown at this time.California Highway Patrol said the bus was equipped with seat belts. (KGTV) — At least three people were killed and 18 other people were injured after a charter bus crashed and overturned on Interstate 15 Saturday.The bus was on southbound I-15 just south of State Route 76 before 10:30 a.m. The bus lost control for some reason, skidding into the dirt on the freeway's shoulder and overturning.Officers arrived to find the bus overturned with at least one passenger trapped inside still. Crews also needed to stabilize the bus to prevent it from falling down an embankment.At least three people were killed, according to North County Fire Protection District (NCFPD). One victim was found dead inside the bus, NCFPD Capt. John Choi told City News Service. Some passengers were ejected from the crash.Eighteen people were taken to Inland Valley Hospital, Palomar Medical Center, and Temecula for injuries ranging from minor to critical condition. The ages of passengers ranges from minors to adults.The bus driver, a man from Whittier, Calif., survived with minor injuries and was speaking with CHP investigators. The bus was traveling from the Los Angeles area to San Ysidro.A Sig Alert was issued for the area after lanes of traffic on SB I-15 were closed for first responders to work in the area.Crews from Camp Pendleton, CalFire, Pala Mesa, Vista, and Oceanside were assisting, Choi told CNS.10News is monitoring this breaking news.
