One Indianapolis mother had to endure not only everyday life with a newborn but controversy with pumping breast milk at her place of employment.Katrina Culhane returned from maternity leave in July of after having her son, Hunter. She worked for the Indiana BMV's central office in downtown Indianapolis. To continue breastfeeding, she needed to pump at work."I thought being the state they would have a plan for me," Culhane said.Culhane says her options on location to pump were extremely limited. One choice was to go up several floors to another department where another mother was often using a room. Her second choice was to reserve a conference room."They kept promising it to employee relations that they were going to have a room and they never had a room," Culhane said. "It wasn't OK that I had to constantly pump in the bathroom."Culhane says she felt frustration from her bosses when needing to adjust her scheduled breaks to make her reservation in the conference room."I worked hard for them. They treated me like dirt. They made me feel like crap. I just want to go pump," Culhane said. "It was stressful. Every single day...it was so stressful."State law requires the following from state and political agencies:Paid breaks to pump.Reasonable effort to provide a room or other location other than a toilet stall.Reasonable efforts to provide a refrigerator to keep breast milk cold."It is absolutely important for a workplace to support these moms, especially when you are first going back to work," Lauren Duncan, a certified lactation specialist, and Donor Mother Coordinator at The Milk Bank, said.RTV6 reached out to the BMV to get a response to this situation. A spokesperson said Culhane was fired for violating the state's workplace harassment prevention policy. The spokesperson also told RTV6 there are plans to add a private room for mothers to breastfeed on the fourth floor of the building where the BMV is located."I just want to pump for my son," Culhane said. "And I wanted it to be known that no one deserves to be treated like that in the workplace. INDIANAPOLIS —Indiana teachers were hit with pellets during an active shooter training at a school, the Indiana State Teachers Association said Wednesday.Exact details on when or where this happened are unclear, but an ISTA representative testified in front of the Senate Education and Career Development Committee that some of its members were injured by the pellets.The representative, Gail Zeharalis, said teachers were taken into a room four at a time, told to crouch down, and were shot “execution-style” with the pellets. She said welts appeared on their bodies, and blood was drawn.Zeharalis’ testimony was to push state lawmakers amend a bill to include limits and safety precautions during active shooter training in schools. The teachers were “terrified,” but were told not to tell anyone what happened, ISTA says. LARGO, Fla. — A Largo, Florida, man has been charged with murder after his 7-week-old daughter died after suffering multiple serious injuries while in his care. Anthony Suffoletto, 28, was arrested on March 5, 2019 and charged with murder in the first degree and aggravated child abuse. On February 28, 2019 at approximately 2:30 p.m., the child's biological mother left the 7-week-old infant in Suffoletto's care while she went to pick up an older sibling. During the time Suffoletto was left alone with his daughter, the infant stopped breathing. Suffoletto told detectives with the Largo Police Department that he woke up to the baby making a moaning sound and gasping for air and instead of calling 911 right away, he went upstairs to a bathroom with the infant and splashed cold and hot water on the baby. Suffoletto reportedly called the baby's mother at 3:12 p.m. to let her know about the child's breathing. The mother returned to the house at 3:20 p.m. and the mother called 911. The infant was taken to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead. Doctors say the infant suffered a "violent event" with multiple serious injuries and an evaluation revealed that the infant suffered rib fractures, both left and right tibia fractures, a left femur fracture, subdural and subarachnoid hemorrhages and suffered multiple retinal hemorrhages, according to the arrest affidavit. Further examination revealed the infant's injuries were consistent with non-accidental trauma. Suffoletto and the child's mother told detectives that the baby was in good health before she left the house to pick up the older sibling. The mother told detectives that Suffoletto "commonly gets frustrated with the child due to the baby being fussy," according to the arrest affidavit. The arrest document lists Suffoletto's place of employment as The City of Clearwater. His job title is listed as Waste Water Treatment Plant Operator.
