SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The International Olympic Committee and Japanese government made an historic announcement Tuesday to postpone the 2020 summer Olympic games in Tokyo due to the coronavirus.Tuesday, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe confirmed on Twitter that the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic games have been delayed until no later than summer 2021.The announcement left several San Diegan Olympic hopefuls dashed of any immediate Olympic dreams."It's kind of hard to wrap your head around it because you have been training so long for this one moment," Allison Halverson said back in Februaray.Her tone changed Tuesday."I was kind of like, 'Ok. That's good to know.' Now I can kind of refocus and figure out how to train for that," Halverson said.Swimmer Michael Chadwick says the lack of open pools is sidelining any training, making competition right now even less of a possibility."Too much has happened too quickly for us to really understand what the ramifications of it all are," Chadwick said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The man accused of assaulting a Pacific Beach woman while she slept in her own home was in court for the first time on Monday. Jeffrey Hanze pleaded not guilty to the charges, which include sexual assault during a burglary. The 55-year-old was arrested in L.A. County on October 29th for the crime. Police say Hanze broke into a home in Pacific Beach on October 1st, getting in through an open window, then assaulting a woman while she slept. The woman woke up to the assault and Hanze got away.On Monday, the judge agreed to increase his bail from 0,000 to a million dollars and issued a protective order for the victim. A background check shows Hanze has a criminal record, including two felonies in San Diego County and several sex crimes dating back to 2011 in Arizona. Hanze is due in court again on November 15th.    913

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Surveillance video captures a burglar on the move inside a popular restaurant in Mira Mesa, and his crimes may be escalating.Inside the kitchen of T.P. Bahn Bao on Camino Ruiz, the staff is busy making steamed Vietnamese buns, days after an unappetizing discovery. "Scared, anxiety, disbelief," said Travis Nguyen, who owns the restaurant.When she got in on Thursday morning, she found loose change all over and the drawer of the cash register gone. The surveillance video revealed what happened. Just before 3 a.m., a figure is seen crouched low, shining a flashlight into the restaurant. After a few moments, the man pries open the door and walks in."It appeared he used a homemade tool to break the panic bar. It took him only a few seconds to get in," said Lon Holliday of Convoy Street Locksmith, the company that repaired the door.In the video, the man quickly heads to the cash register, removes the drawer and about 0 in cash."He knows what he's doing. I think he's done this before," said Nguyen. After the thief is done in the front - and with a loud security alarm going off - the intruder heads towards the kitchen, where he looks around. He then goes into the walk-in cooler. He apparently doesn't like what he sees and takes off."He's in and out of the restaurant in under two minutes. He's quick," said Nguyen. It's an elusive quality residents in the a nearby neighborhood are familiar with. Amid of a rash of porch and package thefts, one homeowner sent 10news video of a man on a bike she saw stealing a car jack from a porch two weeks ago. The man does resemble the intruder. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The city of San Diego has turned to two community leaders to assist with gang prevention and improve communication between police and the community.Mayor Kevin Faulconer on Tuesday announced the hiring of Rev. Gerald Brown to oversee police-community relations, and Pastor Jesus Sandoval to lead its commission on gang prevention."At age 16 I had been shot and stabbed, didn't think I would make it to 18," said Sandoval, once in a gang himself. "Since then I've been dedicating my life to helping other people."Brown will take over the Citizens Advisory Board on Police-Community relations, which meets monthly at various locations in the city. He said he is already working on arranging for clergy to spend 10 hours a month with police.Brown also wants to make himself accessible to the community and says he will bring concerns directly to the chief of police. "Really focus on how do we bring communities together? How do we bridge that gap, especially when working with African American community and law enforcement, find ways we can seek peace," he said. But some say the city needs to do more. Kate Yavenditti is a member of Women Occupy San Diego, which is seeking more police oversight. She said she has been attending the police-community relations meetings for about two years and hasn't seen many results.She said she would like the groups to be more than just advisory."So they can send recommendations up to the mayor and the mayor doesn't have to make any changes, and that's pretty much what's been happening," she said.The police-community relations board next meets 6 p.m. Monday at the Taylor Branch Library in Pacific Beach.    1706
