So it's almost Christmas Eve, and if you are like millions of Americans you still haven't found a new XBox or PlayStation? At least you are in good company: Sony's new PS5 has become the must-have, impossible to find gift this pandemic holiday season, this year's Furby, Tickle Me Elmo, and Cabbage Patch Doll all rolled into one. While it may be too late to find one in time to put under the tree, you may be able to buy one the next couple of weeks if you know how to track them.Canceled orders, locked up websitesFor many shoppers, finding one of the new consoles has been an exercise in frustration.Jerris Williams thought he had found a PS5 at Kohl's."We were happy, excited, and even celebrating," Williams told me. "And then the next morning they canceled on us."Kohl's canceled hundreds of orders, after it admitted it sold more than it had in stock (however it did award everyone impacted 5 in bonus Kohl's Cash to spend).Stephanie Meibers, like thousands of other hopeful parents, found one at Walmart.com on Thanksgiving night, but when she went tried to check out, it vanished."I tried to add it to add it to my cart," she said. "But then I get an 'oh dear' message, and a picture of a little dog with antlers, and then I get 'we are having temporary internet issues.' Then the next thing it said 'out of stock, we have moved it to your save for later folder.'"But the good news is you can now track availability of the PS5 and XBox Series S.Sites to follow and check regularlyYou may want to start by following two Twitter accounts:PS5 Stock Alerts (PlayStation availability only)GYX deals (for both PS5 and Xbox availability)Also bookmark and watch the websites:StockInformer.comNowinStock.netUSA Today suggests you bookmark the Xbox S or PS5 page at Best Buy, Walmart, Amazon, and Target, and check several times every day, especially right after midnight when new stock tends to show up.Insane prices on eBayBut from the doesn't that stink file, the insane prices eBay sellers continue to command.Prices for the 9 consoles start around 0 on eBay (if you are lucky), but most sell for over ,000 with Buy it Now prices at ,500 or more. And that stinks. Finally, don't assume stores will be swamped with PS5s and Xboxes in January. Sometimes, it's nice to eat healthy. Other times, you just want artificial flavoring in your cereal.General Mills gets that now. A year and a half after the company removed artificial colors and flavors from its Trix cereal, it's bringing them back."Classic Trix" -- the bright, rainbow version from your childhood -- will hit shelves in October, the company announced Thursday. The news was first reported by the Wall Street Journal. The all-natural Trix -- called "No, No, No" Trix -- will still be available to consumers who want to cut factory-made dyes from their diet. That version gets its more muted coloring from fruit and vegetable juices and spice extracts, like turmeric and annatto, which is derived from the achiote tree.General Mills announced in 2015 that it would remove artificial flavors and colors from all its cereals."We're simply listening to consumers and these ingredients are not what people are looking for in their cereal today," Jim Murphy, president of the company's cereal division, said in a statement at the time. The changes to Trix took effect in January, 2016.But fans of that earlier recipe for Trix believe they were misheard."Our Trix fans have been calling us, emailing us and reaching out to us on social media asking if we would consider bringing back the original formulation of Trix cereal with its vibrant colors. As a result, we are launching 'Classic Trix' to fill these consumer requests," General Mills spokesman Mike Siemienas said Thursday to explain the change.Siemienas said the company doesn't have any plans to change up the ingredients in its other cereals. Artificial flavoring and coloring has also been removed from Reese's Puffs, Cocoa Puffs, Golden Grahams, Chocolate Cheerios, Frosted Cheerios and Fruity Cheerios since the 2015 announcement. The back and forth comes at a tough time for the cereal business.General Mills reported lower quarterly earnings than expected on Wednesday, with overall sales down 4%. It was the ninth consecutive quarter that revenue fell when compared to the year before. The problem: Americans just aren't consuming as much cereal for breakfast. General Mills' cereal sales in the U.S. fell 7% from one year ago, the company said.Competitor Kellogg faces similar problems. The company said last month that sales for "morning foods," including Frosted Flakes, Rice Krispies and Pop-Tarts, have also dropped in the past year. 2428
Spain and Portugal faced another exceptionally hot day Saturday as a heat wave that has killed three people in Spain threatened to raise temperatures to record levels.Large areas of Portugal are on red alert for heat, including the capital, Lisbon. Temperatures will reach 45 degrees Celsius (113 degrees Fahrenheit) in parts of the south-central Alentejo region, according to the country's weather agency, IPMA.Forecasters at the UK Met Office have said temperatures in the Iberian Peninsula this weekend "could beat the all-time continental European record of 48C," which is a little over 118 degrees Fahrenheit, before the mercury starts to dip. That record was set in the Greek capital, Athens, in July 1977. The record for Spain is 47.3 Celsius, while for Portugal it's 47.4 Celsius, according to the World Meteorological Organization. 847
SHERMAN HEIGHTS, Calif. (KGTV) - A storage facility for homeless people to keep their belongings is at capacity, leading some people to call for expansion. The facility is in Sherman Heights, near 20th Street and Commercial. It opened in June of 2018 with room for 500 bins.It was full by Halloween. Now there is a 200 person waiting list. The city initially wanted to put 1000 storage bins in the warehouse, but pushback from neighbors led to a compromise of just 500.Neighbors worried that the facility would be a magnet for homeless people, drawing them to the area.Six months later, people who spoke to 10News say the opposite has happened. They still see homeless people in the area, but not any more than before the facility opened. They also say the amount of clutter on the streets and sidewalks has decreased dramatically.Crime has also gone down in the area. According to the crimemapping.com website, there were 188 crimes reported within 1500 feet of the facility in August of 2018. In December, that number had dropped to 73 (see chart above).Part of that is from extra police patrol. A recent police department report says that SDPD is spending nearly million on overtime to add patrols in the neighborhood of the facility.City officials told the San Diego Union Tribune they have no plans to expand the facility. But at a meeting last month at the University of San Diego, several homeless advocated said it's an idea worth looking into. 1460
