LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Residents were told to shelter in place following a shooting in a La Mesa neighborhood Thursday evening. La Mesa Police tweeted Thursday evening that neighbors near Harris Street and Waite Drive needed to shelter in place just before 6:30 p.m. A little over an hour later, the department said residents no longer needed to shelter in place. According to police, a woman was shot inside a home in the neighborhood and was able to call police to report the incident. The woman was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police say they are searching for a suspect, but have no description at this time. The neighborhood is located just off State Route 94 blocks away from Vista La Mesa Academy. 745
Legendary filmmaker Quentin Tarantino is turning his Academy Award-winning movie "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" into a book.HarperCollins Publishers announced on Tuesday that the Oscar-winning screenwriter had signed a two-book deal with them.His first novel, scheduled to be released next summer in paperback, will move forward and backward in time as it focuses on the lives of the movie's characters TV actor Rick Dalton and his stunt double Cliff Booth."In the seventies, movie novelizations were the first adult books I grew up reading," says Tarantino in the press release. LA JOLLA, Calif. (KGTV) - Three baby sea lions stranded in a small cave in La Jolla were rescued Friday by SeaWorld experts.The sea lions became trapped for an unknown reason and did not appear to be able to swim to safety. The animals' mother cried out in distress as onlookers watched from above. One sealion was lodged between two rocks, while two others were inside on the floor and unable to find their way out. A SeaWorld team reached the scene about 11:30 a.m. to save the sea lions. Mark Bressler, a SeaWorld rescuer, said the mothers and babies can get separated when humans get too close to the sea lions. The crowd cheered as the animals were reunited with their mom. 687
LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) -- La Mesa, El Cajon, Poway, Santee and other local cities are among San Diego County cities to enforce a curfew Sunday night. A curfew will begin at 7 p.m. on May 31 and end at 7 a.m. on June 1 for the City of La Mesa. During that time, the city encouraged residents and visitors to shelter in place. The order was issued following a city council meeting at 9 a.m. Sunday. La Mesa's curfew will also be in effect from Monda at 7 p.m. to Tuesday at 5:30 a.m.National City has also imposed a curfew saying: "This curfew will be in effect starting today, May 31 from 8pm until tomorrow, June 1 at 5:30am. This means no one should be out in public on the streets in National City after 8pm. Large U.S. employers saw their smallest health care cost increase in more than two decades due to COVID-19, and workers may benefit from that next year, according to the consulting firm Mercer.Patients stayed home and out of doctor’s offices this year to avoid the global pandemic, and that led to an average 1.9% cost hike for companies with 500 or more employees, Mercer found in a national survey.Those employers were expecting a 3.5% increase, said Beth Umland, Mercer’s director of health and benefits research.The lowest cost increase since 1997 will help many large employers avoid raising deductibles or doing other things to shift costs to workers in 2021, Umland said.Many companies also will spend some of what they saved adding programs that help improve the health of those covered by their plans. That could include expanding telemedicine, improving access to behavioral health care like therapy or adding programs that help people with a specific condition such as diabetes.Large employers pay their own health care claims. They can see fairly quickly if costs fall, unlike small employers that pay a fixed premium for coverage.Those employers may receive rebates for a similar drop in health care use, but they won’t know the extent of that until next year.Employer-sponsored health insurance covers about 157 million people, according to the non-profit Kaiser Family Foundation. 1403
