Parents and guardians looking to keep kids entertained this summer reportedly helped boost sales of LEGO sets. The company’s second quarter report shows a 14 percent increase in sales during the first half of 2020 over the same time period last year.“During the first half, we saw the benefits of our investments in long-term growth initiatives such as e-commerce and product innovation,” the LEGO Group CEO, Niels B. Christiansen said in a statement.He also thanked employees and colleagues who did “everything they could to stay safe and bring play to children and families around the world.”Despite citing growth in e-commerce, LEGO is planning to open dozens of new stores yet this year.The toy company announced they are still on track to open 120 new stores in 2020, with about 80 of them based in China. PASADENA, Calif. -- Police are searching for the person they say dropped a basketball-sized boulder from a highway overpass onto a car, killing a pregnant widow’s husband, according to ABC News.The incident happened on Tuesday night in Pasadena, California.Guadalupe Gutierrez said she was driving home with her husband, Christopher Lopez, her mother and 4-year-old daughter when a 35-pound boulder went through the windshield and struck Lopez.Gutierrez took him to the hospital where he later died.The California Highway Patrol said the incident is an intentional act by a “careless person or persons.” 611

PHOENIX, Ariz. – Blanca Ramirez knows how to step past an obstacle.“We’re trying to register people to vote,” said Ramirez. “It’s really important to vote.”Leading up to the October 5 deadline for voters to register in Arizona, Ramirez walked from shopper to shopper in a grocery store parking lot in south Phoenix, making sure people were registered to cast their ballot.“I come at eight in the morning and start talking to people and see if they are registering to vote,” she said.Ramirez’s mission is driven by the obstacles and hurdles she’s overcome. Peoria, Arizona officials say a 4-year-old boy has died after he was pulled from a backyard pool on Monday morning. Emergency responders were called to a home near 91st and Peoria avenues around 8 a.m. after the child was pulled from a pool. Peoria Fire officials saidsa the child was at a babysitter's house at the time. The pool was fenced and it's unknown how he got past the fence or how long he was in the water. The child was reportedly unresponsive and was taken to the hospital in critical condition but did not survive.No further information about the incident has been released. So far this year, there has been just over a dozen media-reported drowning and near-drowning incidents involving children in Arizona.
