KENOSHA, Wis. – The city of Kenosha, Wisconsin, is taking stock of the damage left in the wake of unrest following the shooting of Jacob Blake. As President Donald Trump made his first visit to Kenosha since the shooting Tuesday, small businesses were beginning to tally up the losses.“You ain’t touching my dojo. That’s a fact,” taekwondo student Shelley Meyer said during a live-stream on Facebook as she stood guard outside her dojo.“I’m getting scared. I know I’m a military vet, but I am outnumbered here,” she said.That’s when a number of people confronted her.“They came across the street and then attacked the school,” said Meyer.She pleaded with the attackers before others stepped in.“Then another group of protesters surrounded me and built a human shield.”Today, the school is still standing.“She singlehandedly geared up and, you know, begged and pleaded in the face of people spitting and throwing stuff at her, protected our building,” said U.S. Taekwondo Academy owner Jon Kim. He says the damages are estimated in the tens of thousands.But down the block that night, another business was not so lucky.“The cars are just blowing up one by one,” Meyer said during her live stream.Like dominoes, the dealership’s cars detonated one tank at a time.Witnesses say the flames started in one car and quickly engulfed the entire lot. The owners estimate the losses in the millions.The inferno, which burned for hours, left more than 100 cars completely destroyed.For owners Sahil and Anmol Khindri, their American dream has turned into a nightmare.“We built this place up from the ground up. That office right there, as you can see, it's in ashes right now. It's done. It's gone,” said Anmol Khindri, co-owner of Car Source.Charred scraps, shattered glass and tires melted to the core are all that remain.“It's gonna cost us more money to remove this car off the lot than it's worth itself,” said Sahil Khindri.More than a week since the destruction, they’re still not sure how they will recover financially. A GoFundMe page has been set up. They’re hoping for some assistance though, it’s unclear whether their insurance will pay out at all.“We had nothing to do with it. And we were the ones who was getting penalized for this,” said Sahil Khindri.It’s a similar story up and down Kenosha’s business district.Boarded up storefronts are decorated with colorful messages of hope while masking the damage and loss.Back at the taekwondo academy, their judo coin symbol has been painted outside the boarded-up exterior. JAMUL (CNS) - A fire of unknown origin damaged a home in a back-country neighborhood west of Barrett Lake today and left a resident with burn injuries.The blaze in the 17000 block of Lyons Valley Road in Jamul erupted shortly before 3 p.m., according to Cal Fire.It took crews about an hour to fully subdue the flames, said Issac Sanchez, a fire captain with the state agency.Medics took a 25-year-old man to UCSD Medical Center in San Diego for treatment of burns of undisclosed severity.The cause of the fire was under investigation, Sanchez said. 557

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Imagine getting a COVID-19 test from the comfort of your own home.That's what Costco is offering by selling saliva test kits online.They come at a steep price. The basic test kit is listed for 9.99, while a kit with video observation is 9.99.The KSHB I-team reached out to Costco for more information about the products. However, the company's corporate communications team was unwilling to respond to any questions, adding that it is not staffed to do so."As always our focus is to have merchandise available for our members at low warehouse prices," a spokesman wrote in an email.According to the Costco website, the kits are administered by Azova, which is a telemedicine platform.A fact sheet for patients found on the Azova website shows the test used is the P23 Labs TaqPath SARS CoV-2 Assay.The test has not been cleared or approved by the Food and Drug Administration. However, like many tests, it has received emergency use authorization from the agency.That means the makers of the test need to continually submit data to the FDA, which will evaluate the information and study the accuracy of diagnoses.Azova claims 98% of positive tests and 99% of negative test results are accurate."Saliva testing can be very accurate. It is probably chosen (for at-home testing) because the chance of having user error is much less than say a nasal swab," Dr. Dana Hawkinson of the University of Kansas Health System said.A customer who purchases a kit from Costco must complete a health assessment online with Azova and register for a lab order and test kit.The actual kit should come the next day, but results won't arrive for one to three days after the lab receives the sample.The kit with video observation, however, promises results in 24-48 hours."If that's the only thing that you're using for diagnosis and you have symptoms, you need to be isolated in your home until those results come back," Hawkinson added.In his opinion, it's not the most efficient way to get tested once the shipping time and wait for results are factored into the equation.However, Hawkinson believes we may see more options like this in the future."The technology is out there. It is progressing quickly," he said. KANSAS CITY, Mo. – After more than a century embedded beneath the paint, researchers discovered a grasshopper beneath the brushstrokes in a Vincent Van Gogh painting at the Nelson Atkins Art Museum.Paintings Conservator Mary Schafer discovered the tiny grasshopper in the lower foreground of the landscape while working under a microscope. According to a news release from the Nelson, Schafer and other researchers hoped the grasshopper could be used to determine a more specific date on the painting.“It is not unusual to find insects or plant material in a painting that was completed outdoors,” Schafer said. “But in this case, we were curious if the grasshopper could be used to identify the particular season in which this work was painted.”Unfortunately, entomologists were unable to date the painting, but could determine the grasshopper had died before landing on Van Gogh’s canvas.Additional research on Van Gogh’s “Olive Trees” is underway.
