For the fourth time, Democrats in Wisconsin believe they have a chance to finally defeat Gov. Scott Walker and steer the state back to the left after eight years of Republican rule.First, though, the party will have to use Tuesday's primary to sort through its own crowded field of little-known candidates to find a nominee to oppose Walker.Tuesday's primaries in two key Upper Midwestern states -- Wisconsin and Minnesota -- will kick off Democrats' midterm push to capitalize on President Donald Trump's unpopularity and wrest back the dominant positions they once held in the states.The two states will join Ohio, Michigan and Illinois on the list of Midwestern battlegrounds with governor's offices on the ballot this fall that Democrats believe they can win.Walker, who frustrated Democrats in 2010, rolled back union rights in 2011, survived a 2012 recall election, and won again in 2014, looks vulnerable this year. A recent poll by NBC News/Marist found him trailing his potential challenger Tony Evers. He has warned Republicans repeatedly that the party faces an enthusiasm gap. And the progressive candidate's victory in a state Supreme Court election earlier this year buoyed the left's hopes there.In Wisconsin's wide-open Democratic gubernatorial primary, the leading candidate is Evers, who has been the state superintendent of public instruction since 2009.Polls have shown him with a lead of at least three-to-one. But the highest he's been in any recent public poll is 31% -- reflecting how little voters know about the vast field of potential Walker opponents.The two candidates who have received the most national attention are firefighter union president Mahlon Mitchell and former state Rep. Kelda Roys.Mitchell would become Wisconsin's first black governor. He's endorsed by California Sen. Kamala Harris, a potential 2020 presidential candidate. Another 2020 prospect -- New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand -- has endorsed Roys. Former "The Price is Right" host Bob Barker, 94, was hospitalized on Monday with non-life threatening injuries, Hollywood Reporter confirmed. Hollywood Reporter said that ambulances were dispatched to Barker's Los Angeles residence at 1 p.m. PT.Barker's manager told TMZ that the 94-year-old woke up to severe back pain. TMZ captured photos of Barker being loaded onto the back of an ambulance. He was then transported to Cedars-Sinai hospital.Barker was a fixture of daytime TV since the early days of television. Barker spent 35 years as host of The Price is Right until his retirement in 2007. Before The Price Is Right, Barker hosted "Truth or Consequences" for 18 years. Barker will celebrate his 95th birthday on Dec. 12. 765

FREDERICK, Colo. -- A Frederick husband and father is behind bars in the Weld County Jail, booked early Thursday morning for the disappearance of his pregnant wife and two young daughters.According to two law enforcement officials, Christopher Watts, 33, has confessed to killing Shanann?Watts, 34, and their two daughters — 3-year-old Celeste and 4-year-old Bella. Officials believe they know where the bodies are.Watts and her daughters were reported missing out of Frederick on Monday. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation issued a missing-endangered alert for the three on Tuesday. A day later, the Federal Bureau of Investigation joined in the search.Just after midnight Thursday, an official with the Frederick Police Department said they had made an arrest "in connection to the missing person's case" involving Shanann Watts and her two girls. Officials said they were awaiting charges for the suspect, who will be held at the Weld County Jail for the time being.Police declined to comment further on the investigation. Watts was 15 weeks pregnant. In an interview with Scripps station KMGH in Denver on Tuesday, Chris Watts said his wife’s purse, keys and phone were all left at home before she went missing. For years, Toys "R" Us was an American success story.Now the discount toy retailer is in its final chapter. The company filed for bankruptcy in September. On Wednesday, Toys "R" Us told employees that it would close or sell all its stores in the United States.It's an ignominious end for the company that was once the toy industry's powerhouse. In the second half of the 20th century, just after the Baby Boom, Toys "R" Us grew into a dominant retail chain thanks to its low prices and a knack for keeping the nation's hottest toys in stock."Toys 'R' Us, Big Kid on the Block, Won't Stop Growing," a Wall Street Journal headline blared in 1988.It all started in 1948, when Charles Lazarus, age 25, opened a baby furniture store called Children's Bargain Town in Washington, D.C. He knew Americans returning from World War II were starting families and needed somewhere to stock up on nursery decor.But before long, Lazarus discovered that the real money was not in cribs, but in toys.Toys break, or go out of fashion — which means parents need to go to the store more often, Toys "R" Us explains in its online company history.In 1957, Lazarus opened his first store stocked only with toys. It was modeled after a supermarket, with items stocked high on shelves and a wide assortment of choices. He named it Toys "R" Us — with a backwards "R" in the logo that was supposed to look it it was drawn by a kid.The mainstays of the iconic Toys "R" Us marketing campaigns emerged over the next two decade. Dr. G. Geoffrey made his first TV appearance in 1973. "Each product is tracked by computer, and that helps the chain spot hot-selling items weeks before most competitors do."Lazarus also kept his stores stocked with a variety of baby products, like diapers and formula, so shoppers would have a reason to shop year-round.Things started to go awry in the 1990s. In 1994, Lazarus stepped down as CEO. But the biggest change came when Walmart started offering lower prices on diapers, according to toy industry analyst Jim Silver.While Toys "R" Us remained a destination during the holidays, it lost regular shoppers during the rest of the year."That changed everything," Silver said.In 2001, Toys "R" Us opened a flagship store in Times Square, complete with a 60-foot Ferris wheel and a life-size Barbie dollhouse, in order to juice enthusiasm. But the costs were "astronomical," Silver said.On shaky ground, Toys "R" Us was taken private by a group of private equity firms in 2005. Bain Capital, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. and Vornado Realty Trust bought the company for .6 billion.Saddled with debt, the store was not able to pour enough money into necessary, innovative changes. By the time Amazon ruled the online shopping ecosystem, Toys "R" Us was lightyears behind — despite an early partnership with Amazon in 2000. The agreement to jointly sell toys online ultimately went sour and ended after a court fight."Walmart had a better online experience. Target had a better online experience," Silver said. "They lost online and they didn't adapt."In 2015, Toys "R" Us closed its Times Square mega-store. It was the beginning of the end.A dismal 2017 holiday season was the death knell. Flywheel has filed for bankruptcy.The fitness company was in business for 10 years and once had 40 studios across the United States.Earlier this year, Flywheel lost a major legal battle to its competitor.Peloton sued Flywheel alleging the company copied its technology used to create the in-home bikes.The patent infringement case initially caused Flywheel to close only a dozen of its studios along with all virtual classes.The pandemic later forced the company to layoff nearly all staff and close all studios.Flywheel hasn't commented on the bankruptcy filing. 571
