SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego State University has suspended over a dozen fraternities after a student who attended a reported fraternity event was hospitalized this week with unknown injuries.SDSU President Adela de la Torre suspended Interfraternity Council (IFC) activities citing the "severity of the incident" following the alleged fraternity event Wednesday night, a statement from the school read."Given the severity of this incident, and as the safety and wellbeing of students is a primary concern of the university, SDSU President Adela de la Torre has suspended the Interfraternity Council (IFC) and all chapter organizations under the council," an SDSU media relations officer said Friday.SDSU clarified Saturday that a campus fraternity is "alleged to have been involved in possible misconduct" in the Wednesday event.Prior to Wednesday, the school says six IFC organizations were under suspension and four were under investigation, leading to de la Torre's decision. The suspension affects all 14 IFC fraternities with more than 1,400 members. A close friend says that Hernandez fell off his bed Wednesday night and hit his head, suffering a head injury. She said his mouth was foaming, his lips were purple and his skin was yellowing. She performed CPR on him until emergency crews arrived.According to university police, officers were called to a residence hall in the 6100 block of Montezuma Road Thursday morning in response to a student needing medical attention. The student was taken to a nearby hospital, police said."University Police officers quickly arrived to the location of the incident and provided appropriate aid. The student was then transported to a San Diego area hospital," San Diego State University Police Department said.According to university officials, they believe the student had attended a fraternity event the night he fell off his bed.The school did not comment on the student's condition. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — SeaWorld San Diego is reintroducing its popular annual SoCal Pass as the park prepares to offer new attractions for guests.The SoCal Pass, also known as the "Silver Annual Pass," is available for 1.99, or .24 a month with a down payment, the park says, and contains hundreds of dollars in benefits. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Southern California home sales are seeing a significant drop, according to a new report by CoreLogic. In San Diego County, home sales are down more than eight percent year-over-year. Despite a dip in sales, home prices rose 2.6 percent from February of 2018 to February of 2019.The median home price in February was 9,000, CoreLogic reports. The report points out that total SoCal home sales in February were the lowest since February of 2008, when only 10,777 homes were sold. According to the report, sales have fallen on a year-over-year basis for the last seven consecutive months. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Some students in the San Diego Unified School District are being allowed to return to campus Tuesday as the district begins the first phase of its reopening plan.The district began the 2020-21 school year on Aug. 31 with a distance learning program for its students. In recent weeks, during the distance learning period, teachers have been working to determine which students they believe would benefit from appointment-based in-person learning sessions.Appointment sessions will be voluntary; the rest of the time, those students will continue with distance learning.SD Unified officials said they’ve also been working with health experts in designing a reopening plan that would ensure all students and staff are safe.Despite the reopening plan, there are some parents who still do not believe it’s enough.On Tuesday afternoon, a group of parents called Reopen SDUSD has scheduled a rally at 4 p.m. in front of the Board of Education building to voice their concerns about the reopening plan.The group, which held a similar rally last month, is calling for a more detailed reopening plan and they want the district to be more transparent.Reopen SDUSD has gathered thousands of signatures for a petition urging the district to allow more students to return to campus.ABC 10News spoke with some parents at the September rally who said they want options because distance learning is not working for them.One mother said her children “dread going on Zoom. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Some local Uber customers got a major case of sticker shock when they see just how much they were being charged for their rides.On Wednesday afternoon, Kelley Rowe and two others were trying to get from the airport to the convention center to get her Comic-Con badges. Rowe, who flew in from Wisconsin, clicked and approved an Uber ride for .08. Not long after, she got an alarming message. "I got a text from my credit card company asking if it was fraud. Uber tried to charge ,308 to my credit car," said Rowe.The pending charge on her credit card was 100 times the actual cost. "It was huge sticker shock. I'm sure I swore immediately," said Rowe.Her bank put a hold on the charge and the ride never happened. Her credit card was now suspended during a week she needed to use it. "I'm very lucky I had credit card attached and not a debit card," said Rowe. Others may not have been so lucky. Some customers tweeted the ride drained their accounts. According to the Washington Post, an unknown amount of riders in San Diego and Washington D.C. experienced what Uber calls a glitch from a 'known' issue.Uber called it a system error in a message sent to Rowe. The company saying the overcharges will be reversed, but Rowe says needs to be more forthcoming and apologize. "They should be explicit about what the problem was, the scope and what they're doing to prevent it in the future.
