it is reconsidering when it will extend protection to candidates. The official told CNN that it had plans to roll out candidate protection around mid-March when the agency expected the field of Democratic Party candidates to dwindle to two. But with Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders now clearly the party's two frontrunners, the Secret Service is reconsidering its timetable. The report came on the same day that the House Homeland Security committee chair sent a letter to the Secret Service recommending protection for the candidates. In 2017, the Secret Service spelled out guidelines on when candidates would receive protection. The criteria spells out that a de facto party nominee and running mate would receive protection. Protection could also be extended to candidates based on standing in the polls and threats against the candidate. On Tuesday, Biden's rally was interrupted when two protesters jumped onto the stage. One protester was hauled away by a private security guard, and another was held back by Dr. Jill Biden and campaign manager Symone Sanders. 1068

Would you approach a rattlesnake? Would you think of trying to catch it? One Coolidge, Arizona man did just that, and he ended up in the hospital. He was recently bitten in the face, of all places, by a rattlesnake, and this isn't the first time it's happened to 48-year-old Victor Pratt. The man used to be a snake hunter. He would catch the snakes and cook them. He was recently bitten at a child's birthday party after he spotted one and attempted to catch it, but instead the snake caught him, and caught him right on the jawline. He was knocked unconscious for five days. His swelling has gone down and he's recovering. Rattlesnakes are venomous creatures. Both venomous and non-venomous snakes can be found around Arizona.  764

making Saturday, July 13, Nathan Bedford Forrest Day in the state.Forrest was a Civil War Confederate General, slave trader and an early KKK leader."How can you be a person of humanity, how and then support that statue, support a day when he was the head of the KKK, how can you do that," said Jim Wohlgemuth, with Veterans for Peace. For two years, Wohlgemuth and Veterans for Peace have been pushing a petition to remove a bust of Forrest from the Tennessee Capitol. "To (declare Forrest Day) again, to honor Nathan Bedford Forrest again with a day is just saying, guess what, if you're a person of color we don't care about you," Wohlgemuth said.Nathan Bedford Forrest Day has been observed in the state for nearly 50 years. The proclamation is causing controversy among some Democrat members of Tennessee House of Representatives."This a reminder of the painful and hurtful of the crimes that were committed against black people," Rep. Vincent Dixie (D-Nashville) said.Dixie says like many others he didn't know July 13 was Nathan Bedford Forrest Day in Tennessee. Dixie says this was the wrong move on the Governor's part."Now you're signing a proclamation honoring the same people that fought to keep people that look like me, African Americans in slavery," Dixie said."Tennessee governors are required by statute to issue a series of proclamations each year, including Nathan Bedford Forrest Day. The proclamation that was issued complies with this obligation and is in keeping with prior years," said Laine Arnold, a spokesperson for Lee.Dixie says it's time to take a more in-depth look at the law."I plan on working with legislators to correct this issue; If the governor is sincere about really being the governor for all Tennesseans and not some Tennesseans then he would get behind me, and do the right thing," Dixie said. The proclamation is not limited to Lee. Tennessee law mandates that the Governor must issue proclamations for six state holidays each yea,r including days for Nathan Bedford Forrest and Robert E. Lee. It has been a state law since 1971.Tennessee Code Annotated 15-2-101. Additional special observance days. 2142

You can help NASA discover new planets. On Wednesday, the agency announced its new website called Planet Patrol, where astronomers can hunt down new worlds, with the public's help.NASA said they’d sort through images collected by NASA’s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite or TESS for short.“Automated methods of processing TESS data sometimes fail to catch imposters that look like exoplanets,” said project leader Veselin Kostov in a press release. “The human eye is extremely good at spotting such imposters, and we need citizen scientists to help us distinguish between the look-alikes and genuine planets.”TESS captured hundreds of thousands of snapshots over a year, but scientists need help because there are too many pictures to examine.Kostov said that computers are excellent at analyzing data, but sometimes fail to determine potential planets from fakes.Participants will answer questions as they sift through the images to help Kostov and his team of researchers narrow down the list of potential planets. 1027
