BEIJING, May 12 (Xinhua) -- The China-Arab Cooperation Forum has become an important platform to enhance collective dialogue and cooperation between China and the Arab world, said Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi here on Wednesday.Yang made the remarks in a meeting with his counterparts from Arab countries attending the fourth Ministerial Meeting of the China-Arab Cooperation Forum, scheduled on Thursday and Friday in north China's port city of Tianjin.Yang hailed the steady growth of China-Arab friendly cooperative ties based on the Five Principals of Peaceful Co-existence and features mutual trust, benefits and support.He said the two sides had set up more than ten cooperative mechanisms covering politics, economy, trade, culture and education since the China-Arab Cooperation Forum was launched six years ago.The upcoming ministerial meeting is an important one to push forward further development of the forum mechanism, he said."China is ready to join hands with the Arab side to boost new progress of our cooperation, in a bid to benefit the two peoples," said Yang.Participants attending the meeting include Somali Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Jama Ahmed Jengeli, Jordanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Judeh, Lebanon Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Shami, Mauritanian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Naha Mint Mouknass, Libyan Secretary for Foreign Liaison and International Cooperation Mousa Kousa, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates and Secretary-General Amr Mahmoud Moussa of the League of Arab States.They told Yang the Arab countries highly values their relations with China, eyeing the up-coming meeting as a new start to further boost Arab-China cooperation in various areas.Foreign ministers and officials from China and 22 Arab states will attend the two-day meeting in Tianjin.

TASHKENT, May 1 (Xinhua) -- When and how the exchange rate of Chinese Yuan should be adjusted must be decided by the Chinese government, the president of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) said Saturday.Addressing the opening press conference of the 43rd annual meeting of the ADB's Board of Governors, Haruhiko Kuroda said the yuan issue was "up to the Chinese authorities to decide."Meanwhile, Kuroda also said it was up to Chinese authorities to decide how and when to implement exit strategies.Kuroda acknowledged China played a leading role in the recovery of the Asia-Pacific region from the global financial crisis thanks to the 8.7-percent growth of its gross domestic product (GDP) last year.Haruhiko Kuroda, president of Asian Development Bank (ADB), speaks during a press conference in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, May 1, 2010. BEIJING, June 1 (Xinhua) -- China Tuesday released details of its green-car subsidy program designed to boost the nation's auto industry and cut vehicle emissions.Through the program, subsidies of up to 60,000 yuan (8,784 U.S. dollars) will be given to buyers of pure electric vehicles in the five cities chosen for the pilot program, the Ministry of Finance said in a statement on its website.Buyers of plug-in hybrid cars will receive up to 50,000 yuan in subsidies.The cities chosen for the pilot program are Shanghai, Changchun, Shenzhen, Hangzhou and Hefei.China is the world's largest auto market.

NANNING, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Three people were killed and one was missing amid heavy rains that pounded a scenic city of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region for the past two days, Guangxi's flood-control and drought relief headquarters said Saturday.Continuous rainstorms triggered mud-rock flows Thursday night in Ziyuan County of Guilin City, killing three people there, the headquarters said.On Friday morning, a fisherman was swept away by rain-triggered floods in Gongcheng County of Guilin.Rainstorms had incurred property losses to about 19,000 people in Guilin as more than 30 houses collapsed, 1,100 hectares of farmland were inundated and many public facilities were damaged.The economic damage was estimated at 13.2 million yuan (1.9 million U.S. dollars).In southern province of Guangdong, three rainstorms pelted Guangzhou, the provincial capital, over the past week, with rainfall up to 440 mm, a record high in 25 years.The precipitation equalled to a quarter of the city's annual rainfall, according to meteorological statistics, said Lin Liangxun, Guangdong's chief weather forecaster.Guangdong has reported one missing. More than 35,000 people have been affected by the three rounds of heavy rains.Latest weather forecast said the rain is expected to weaken over the weekend.In the central province of Hunan, more than 8,000 people were stranded Saturday after heavy rains inundated the key roads of a town. Rescuers were transporting food and daily necessities to the region through a small chain bridge.The rain triggered mountain torrents in Xupu County on Wednesday and Thursday, causing damage to its four major bridges and the trunk roads linking Shanxi Town to the outside. Rescuers had to carry first-aid materials on their shoulders to the stranded population.Water level in the worst-hit Shanxi Town reached 2.7 meters in the street, said Zhang Shanwen, Party chief of Shanxi Town.Weather forecast said a new round of rains will hit the region on Sunday and Monday.
