POWAY, Calif. (KGTV) — Poway developer Kevin McNamara is hoping to convince residents to support a new plan to add 160 homes to the property which was formerly the Stoneridge Country Club. The golf course was closed after a previous development plan was defeated by voters in 2017.McNamara calls his development "The Farms at Stoneridge." It has an agricultural theme, including hiking trails, parks, community gardens, a butterfly farm, and an amphitheater for public performances.The property is owned by real estate mogul Michael Schlesinger. His 2017 campaign to replace a portion of the golf course with condos was rejected by Poway voters. Schlesinger shut down the course the next morning.McNamara tells 10News he has negotiated an option to buy the land from Schlesinger, dependent on his ability to get city and voter approval on the new plan. He says it is important for a local developer to take over the property. "I've been involved in almost everything that's gone on in this city for 20-plus years. I like to think I can be trusted," McNamara said.Some residents have held out hope the City of Poway would take over the land to re-open the golf course. However, McNamara says the city has no interest, as projections suggest an annual 0,000 loss. Other residents want the land to remain undeveloped open space, but McNamara says the fire department would consider that to be a fire hazard."It's a hard choice for a lot of people and I understand that. But I'm their best option. I'm the best option they're ever going to have," he said.McNamara is hosting a public forum Wednesday night from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Painted Rock Elementary. He will submit his final plan to the city by the end of December. McNamara anticipates that 2019 will be spent working on the environmental impact study, followed by a city council vote in the spring of 2020. They seem to be in good health," Trump tweeted.He added that Pompeo had a "good meeting" with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and said a "date & place set" for a meeting between the two leaders.The President said Pompeo and his "guests" will be arriving at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland at 2 a.m. ET, presumably Thursday, where he will greet them.The Americans, Kim Dong Chul, Kim Hak-song and Kim Sang Duk, also known as Tony Kim, have been held in North Korea for months.While Kim Dong Chul has been in North Korean custody since before Trump was elected, the other two detainees were arrested last spring, after Trump's inauguration and as tensions between Washington and Pyongyang were beginning to ramp up.Tony Kim and Kim Hak-song, who were arrested in April and May of 2017, respectively, were both accused of carrying out "hostile acts" against the Kim Jong Un regime. Both worked at the Pyongyang University of Science and Technology, which bills itself as the only privately run university in the North Korean capital.The family members of the two educators have said their loved ones are innocent. Shortly after Kim Hak-song was detained, his wife said in an interview with CNN that her husband is an agricultural expert and was teaching rice-growing at the university, trying to help North Koreans feed themselves.Kim Dong Chul was arrested in 2015 for spying on behalf of South Korea, he told CNN in January 2016. President Donald Trump is laying the groundwork for a new international trade battle -- this time over cars.Trump said in a statement late Wednesday that he has asked Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross to consider investigating whether automobile imports are hurting US national security.The type of investigation Trump is suggesting, known as Section 232, is the same approach the White House took before it slapped tariffs on steel and aluminum imports earlier this year."Core industries such as automobiles and automotive parts are critical to our strength as a Nation," Trump said in a statement. POWAY, Calif (KGTV) -- The Poway Unified School District doesn’t plan to return to in-person learning following winter break, officials announced Tuesday.According to a letter sent to families, the district plans to suspend in-person learning for all students and schools for two weeks, from January 4 through the 15.During that time, district officials say all students will learn from home. “On-campus learning will resume Tuesday, January 19, 2021,” the district said.The district still awaits approval from the board at a Thursday meeting where the move could be solidified.Read the full letter to families below: 625
