SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego is playing a pivotal role as a testing ground for the future border wall while the region prepares for President Trump’s visit Tuesday.WHY SAN DIEGO?The region, specifically Otay Mesa, was selected as a location for the eight prototypes because of site accessibility to construct and the ability to evaluate the wall as part of a larger, existing border infrastructure system, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman Ralph DeSio.San Diego County’s value as a construction site was detailed in a presentation made by the Department of Homeland Security and obtained by NPR.CBP officers can compare the performance of the prototypes to underperforming existing materials in the same location, according to the document. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Fire Urban Search and Rescue task force is on their way to Hawaii to prepare for Hurricane Lane's landfall.The hurricane could bring as many as 20 inches of rain onshore and winds of more than 100 miles per hour.The search and rescue task force is traveling with 55,000 pounds of equipment, hoping to get ahead of the hurricane before it makes landfall.The crew will land in Kauai and then get deployed to wherever help is needed. For the first 72-hours, they must be completely self-sufficient, relying on MRE's and having enough water to survive.The team could be in Hawaii for as long as three weeks but it's expected they will return in 14 days. 692

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego County residents grabbed umbrellas and raincoats Wednesday as a cold storm system brought showers, flooding, winds, lightning, and snow to Southern California. Wednesday will be cooler and windier, with the heaviest rain and threat of flooding between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., according to 10News meteorologist Megan Parry. A Flash Flood Watch was in effect Wednesday until Thursday at 1 a.m. for the coast and mountain areas. Anyone in need of sandbags to prevent flooding can get them for free through the County of San Diego or City of San Diego. The park in Bonita Cove is being named in her honor and receive a “much-needed makeover” for the playground, city officials say.
