(KGTV) - The library at Willow Elementary School is officially be renamed the "Ramon Parra Library" on Friday, in honor a man who dedicated his life to the children of San Ysidro."Anything that needed to be done, he did it," remembers Emilio Noriega, Jr., who played baseball with Parra's son. "He didn't look for any help, he did it himself."Parra is credited with founding the San Ysidro Little League. He also served on the local school board for 18 years. Friends say he served on countless other committees and community boards, all working to make San Ysidro a better place."He was the kind of person that did everything for everybody and didn't ask for nothing," says Jaime Mercado. "He was one of the most honest people you ever ran across."Parra passed 30 years ago. The effort to honor him began in 2017. Mercado and a few other people from the Friends of San Ysidro group started a petition to rename the whole school after Parra. When that failed, they set their sights on the library.A GoFundMe campaign raised ,100 to pay for new lettering. The San Ysidro School Board chipped in another ,000. SANTEE (CNS) - A dispute between a 50-year-old man and his 49-year-old sister at an East County trailer park escalated Tuesday into a stabbing that sent the woman to a hospital and left her brother under arrest, authorities reported.The assault in the 8700 block of North Magnolia Avenue in Santee was reported shortly before 6 a.m., according to sheriff's officials.Medics took the victim to a trauma center for treatment of non-life-threatening cuts to her face, Lt. Chris Steffen said.Deputies found the 6-foot-tall, 230-pound suspect, identified as Joseph Bodenstadt, on Mission Gorge Road and took him into custody.Bodenstadt was booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated mayhem and resisting law enforcement personnel.The reason for the latter charge and the motive for the alleged assault were not immediately clear.The suspect was being held without bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Monday afternoon. 991

(KGTV) -- Dozens of migrants seeking asylum in the United States are being processed Tuesday afternoon, according to an attorney.Eight migrants were allowed in for processing Monday night followed by dozens more Tuesday afternoon and evening. The rest of the migrant caravan is waiting in Tijuana to be allowed in and processed. The attorney, who is working with the group of migrants, said members of the caravan were asked to choose among themselves who would be processed.MAP: Where is the migrant caravan from?Women and children were reportedly in the first groups of migrants selected Monday and Tuesday. An official with U.S. Customs and Border Protection said that, although this group of migrants has been gaining national attention, the process the group is going through is standard.As far as the process the migrants are going through, CBP said that individuals who don’t have proper travel documents and try to enter into the U.S. may be subject to expedited removal.PHOTOS: Migrant caravan makes way to U.S-Mexico borderThose in expedited removal who express fear of return are then referred to United States Citizenship and Immigration Services.Migrants then go through a “fear interview” to determine whether or not they have a credible fear of persecution or torture.The San Ysidro border inspection facility can hold 300 people. In recent days, San Ysidro has exceeded port capacity due to an increase in arrivals of undocumented persons making asylum claims or presenting complex cases. Accordingly, CBP has had to limit the number of new arrivals for processing.
