SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Mayor Kevin Faulconer responded Friday after Governor Gavin Newsom issued new stay-at-home orders for the region.Faulconer said in a statement on Twitter that local businesses aren’t being treated fairly under the new guidance.“Restaurants made good faith efforts to comply with COVID rules. Now the rules are changing once again,” Faulconer said.“If the Governor shuts restaurants down, it’s only right the state compensates them for the costs incurred moving outdoors,” he continued.RELATED STORIESCalifornia's latest stay-at-home order to take effect in San Diego County on SaturdaySan Diego businesses hope to spike business ahead of more closuresThe statement comes after Newsom said Thursday he was pulling the “emergency brake” to stop the spread of coronavirus. The new orders shut down businesses such as hair salons and barbershops, zoos, movie theaters, wineries and breweries, and outdoor playgrounds, among other sectors. 961

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Light scattered showers fell throughout the day from Mission Valley to Carmel Valley. While Sunday's rainfall marked the first fall rain for the region, Alex Tardy with the National Weather Service said that rain will disappear by Monday. “We're looking at conditions that are bone dry, record dry. It’s never been this dry before and just a little bit of rain like this, while it's nice and we won’t have any fires [Sunday], once the dry air starts blowing through on Monday and continues into Tuesday, it's not going to make much of a difference,” Tardy said.RELATED: In-depth: Why La Ni?a could make wildfire season worseTardy said that San Diego may go long stretches without rainfall this season as we move into a dry La Ni?a winter. However, when the rain eventually comes, it could come in sporadic heavy storms. Tardy also added that the conditions will have fire crews on high alert for weeks. “It also means a delay in the start of our winter so we could be in for a very long fall period where we mostly see dry conditions,” Tardy says. “What that means for us is that fire danger [could be] continuing into the fall and well into the early winter.” 1186

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Katie Malone's birthday celebration in Mexico turned into a nightmare after a horrifying parasailing accident in Mexico. The San Diegan is still recovering after a rope disconnected from the boat she was on. Katie was blown around for 45 minutes in the air before falling hundreds of feet to the ground.Katie did not have medical trip insurance, while she was abroad her condition worsened. Donations helped pay for treatment and an emergency life flight from Mexico to San Diego. She's not alone. According to Generali Global Assistance, 80% of travelers do not have adequate trip coverage. The biggest mistake is assuming your health care coverage at home will be enough, according to Brad Rutta."We often hear of travelers cranking up credit card bills because there are coverage gaps with international plans they are not aware of, there are a lot of different components. You can buy travel insurance with an airline or booking site but the most comprehensive coverage will come directly from your insurance carrier."Medical evacuations are often not covered and can cost more than 0,000. Rutta says be as prepared as possible, read your policies and understand your coverage.Travel insurance generally costs 5-7% of the trip. 1259
