The Trump administration announced Thursday it is enacting new sanctions on Russia for its election meddling, a month-and-a-half after missing a congressionally mandated deadline.The Associated Press also reports that the administration has accused Russia of an ongoing, deliberate attempt to penetrate the US energy grid.The new punishments include sanctions on the Internet Research Agency, a Russian troll farm that produced divisive political posts on American social media platforms during the 2016 presidential election. Yevgeniy Viktorovich Prigozhin, a financial backer to the Internet Research Agency with deep ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin, is also included.Known as "Putin's chef," Prigozhin was indicted by special counsel Robert Mueller earlier this year for his involvement with the Russian troll farm.In total, the administration applied new sanctions on five entities and 19 individuals on Thursday, including Russians who posed as Americans and posted content online as part of the IRA's attempts to sow discord ahead of the presidential contest.The sanctions were applied through executive power as well as through the Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act, which Congress initially passed this summer hoping to pressure Trump into punishing Russia for its election interference.Trump signed the bill reluctantly in August, claiming it impinged upon his executive powers and could dampen his attempts to improve ties with Moscow.The measure imposed an October deadline on the administration to produce lists of individuals and entities that could be subject to potential sanctions, and a January deadline to impose them. The law required the administration to identify entities that conduct significant business with the Russian defense and intelligence sectors.The administration missed both by several weeks, claiming necessary work was underway at the State and Treasury Departments to complete the lists.The delay was seen as sign of Trump's unwillingness to punish Russia for its meddling, which he has downplayed in the past. The United States says they are delivering critical supplies to Lebanon after the deadly port explosion on Tuesday.The United States Air Force said in a press release that planes at the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar were getting supplies out to help the Lebanon people after more than 100 people were killed in a deadly blast in Beirut.Officials said members of the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing, Air Mobility Command’s 8th Expeditionary Air Mobility Squadron and 816th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron on Al Udeid Air Base, and the Area Support Group-Qatar from Camp As Sayliyah helped in the delivery of the aid.“Support of this magnitude at such speed wouldn’t be possible without the joint effort of all members of Al Udeid Air Base, our U.S. Army counterparts at Camp As Sayliyah and our gracious Qatari partners,” said Brig. Gen. Daniel Tulley, 379th Air Expeditionary Wing commander in the statement. “In the wake of tragedy, it truly takes a combined effort to make the mission happen. The St. Louis Police Department is investigating one of their own after he issued a ticket to a man who honked at him.According to an interview in the Riverfront Times, Scott Smith was on his way back to work when he honked at a car stopped at a green light. Video shot by the driver and given to the RFT shows a very tense interaction.The car was an unmarked police car. When pulled over, Smith says "seriously?"The officer than replies "Seriously, is your horn stuck?" to which Smith replies "Is your brake stuck?"That's when the officer cusses at the driver asking again "Is your f-ing horn stuck?"He demands to see his driver's license.Smith says he will, but asks for what."I'll tell you what, you can either show your driver's license or you'll get a ticket and I'll tow your car and lock you up," said the officer.Once again Smith asks why he's been pulled over and the officer says it is for a traffic violation."For honking at someone who's stopped at a green light?" Smith asks. He then calls the situation "f-ing ridiculous." "Well you know what? Maybe you shouldn't be a f-ing a-hole," the officer responds.The officer issued the driver a ticket, but the city counselor's office reportedly will not prosecute it, saying they do not believe it should be pursued."The Department has launched an Internal Affairs investigation into the incident you are inquiring about. The U.S. Geological Survey is monitoring the recent eruption of the Kilauea Volcano in Hawaii and has made photos and videos of it available to the public.Small cracks began appearing on May 1 following a powerful earthquake, and Kilauea erupted May 4, sending lava onto surrounding roadways. The USGC said on Sunday night, May 6, the volcano's summit lava lake had dropped significantly, and was roughly 220 meters below the crater rim.An overnight video from the main affected neighborhood, Leilani Estates, shows lava erupting from a fissure and advancing north. The lava flow continued to advance several hours after the fissure eruption diminished, the USGS said.In another video (attached to this article), a lava flow can be seen moving on Makamae Street in the Leilani Estates around 9:30 a.m. local time on Sunday, May 6.By Sunday night, at least 10 fissures had opened, and 26 homes had been destroyed, CNN reports. The active venting of lava and hazardous fumes was ongoing.As of Monday morning, the USGS still had a current volcano alert level of "warning" in effect, and the code color is orange."Residents should remain informed and heed Hawaii County Civil Defense closures, warnings, and messages," the USGS website states.
