SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- La Mesa residents and local business supporters didn't waste time rebuilding their community Sunday morning following a long night of violent protests that left several cars and buildings destroyed.Good Samaritans armed with brooms and paint brushes worked quickly to restore walls inscribed with graffiti and sweep streets strewn with debris.Only hours earlier, hundreds of rioters descended on the small La Mesa Village business district setting fire to numerous vehicles and buildings including a bank, and looting business."Our small businesses are devastated and many were already on the brink due to COVID19. La Mesa Village has been the heart of small business in the city and is a beautiful place for dining, events and memories," wrote Phil Ortiz on a fundraiser page.Ortiz'a gofundme page has already received over ,000 in donations. The goal is to raise ,000."All proceeds will go directly to small businesses that were destroyed or damaged," Ortiz wrote on the page.Saturday's protests started with a mostly peaceful march that drew over a thousand protesters. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Infrastructure improvements will halt Coaster and Amtrak rail service this weekend in San Diego County.During the March 3 - 4 closures, neither Amtrak or Metrolink will be available to commuters in Oceanside, according to North County Transit District (NCTD). Connecting bus service will require an Amtrak reservation, however.There will be no connecting bus service for Coaster commuters, though passengers can use Breeze Route 101 or MTS connecting service, NCTD says.10NEWS TRAFFIC CONDITIONSCoaster and Amtrak service will be canceled on March 10 - 11 as well due to an emergency exercise. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Loved ones gathered at Sunset Cliffs Friday to remember a high school student who died after jumping from 20 feet up, and drowning.10News learned the 15-year-old Anthony Womack and some friends skipped school to spend time at Sunset Cliffs on Wednesday.His friends told San Diego Lifeguards that the teen jumped into the water but immediately started to panic. The friends said they were unaware that Womack did not know how to swim.Friday night more than 100 people gathered to remember and mourn his loss."It was amazing seeing him every single day, seeing how happy he was walking to class," student Christian Perez said."I was walking to PE and heard someone say Anthony's drowning, and I ran up to them and said what happened and they said Anthony, Anthony's dead. Right when I heard that my whole body just froze, I had no words to say, I just started bursting out tears," he said.As the news spread, Christian said everyone was stunned, "the whole school was quiet, walking through, all the friends, it felt empty not having him there."Anthony's Grandma spoke with friends who were at the cliffs the day he died, giving her closure knowing exactly what happened. She also said it was only the second time he ever ditched school."He passed but he's still here, he's in all their hearts, their eyes and their minds, they all know him," Anthony's uncle, Garney Crews, said.At the vigil Crews brought the students together on the cliff, where Anthony jumped, "they had all their heads down, they were mourning , we don't want that. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Large churches throughout San Diego are scaling down services in an effort to control the spread of the novel coronavirus. Miles McPherson, Senior Pastor of The Rock Church, says they normally get 12 to 13 thousand people who attend services at their seven campuses. Now, attendees who show up for worship won’t be allowed inside. A message sent out to members let them know about the change. RELATED: What's the difference? However, we are still going to have church and it’s going to be awesome,” McPherson said. “Here’s what’s going to happen. On Sunday at our normal times – 8, 10, 12, and 6, we will be broadcasting all of our services online on all of our platforms,” he added. McPherson also said church staff are taking precautions for those inside by sanitizing surfaces and not shaking hands. The Rock Church isn’t the only religious organization making changes amid COVID-19. The Diocese adds that churches will remain open for parishioners who want to pray and seek spiritual assistance. It’s unclear how long Mass will be cancelled.
