Families will embark on imaginary voyage learning about the lives and times of the India's passengers in the 19th century.Instructors will be in character and in costume, as they teach various ship-centric tasks like moving cargo and raising sails. Guests will also be able to see areas of the ship normally closed to the public and sleep on "tween decks" out of the elements.RELATED: Several San Diego museums offering free admission to military families“The Family Overnight program is an immersive unforgettable life-changing experience where together the children and their parents discover and share the same fascination and passion for learning about the history of the sea," Jacob Keeton, Director of Education for the Maritime Museum, said. The overnight experience will be hosted on Saturday, June 22, at 2:30 p.m. until Sunday, June 23 at 9 a.m. Tickets are per person ages 5 and up, and include meals and accommodations. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego State's plans for a Mission Valley stadium cleared one of its last major hurdles. The university's design and financing plans for Aztec Stadium were approved by the California State University Board of Trustees, leaving only the close of sale on the land — and current coronavirus pandemic — left. The board's approval gives SDSU the ability to prepare construction for a 35,000-capacity stadium, eventually leading to a Mission Valley campus.RELATED: City of San Diego, SDSU inch closer to SDCCU Stadium site deal"We are pleased that the trustees continue to share our vision for this project, as the construction of the stadium is a key first step allowing us to unlock the rest of the Mission Valley site plan," SDSU President Adela de la Torre said. "Current events remind us that we need to approach every decision with intention. The board's approval today means that we can move forward in our planning and deliberation, and advance Mission Valley as it makes the strongest sense for our students and for San Diego."SDSU and CSU will continue to monitor the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic and make scheduling and planning adjustments.RELATED: SDSU presents offer to purchase SDCCU Stadium siteAztec Stadium is expected to cost about 0 million, funded through philanthropic gifts and bonds to be paid back through revenue generated by the facility. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego’s Planning Commission met Thursday to discuss potential new rules that would help regulate the short-term rental industry in the city.A plan proposed by City Councilmember Jennifer Campbell was first introduced in July after a compromise was reached among members of the hospitality industry and short-term rental companies. The plan would implement tighter restrictions such as capping the number of short-term rental permits that are granted. There are also plans to require a two-night minimum stay to avoid one-night stays that are often connected to big parties that concerns residents.A representative for Campbell says implementing tighter regulations will help law enforcement address any problems that may arise. The proposed plan creates penalties and fines for those who violate the city’s “good neighbor” policy.More than 500 people signed up to voice their opinion about this proposal during Thursday’s virtual meeting. One caller said, “We depend on this for our livelihood, especially since the pandemic has taken a toll on us already. Without having the ability to host, many of us will be forced to leave our homes.”Another caller added, “This has been an issue for years. It’s now time to act and bring it to a close.”The next step will be to send the proposal to the full City Council for review. 1350

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Small Business Administration Administrator Jovita Carranza visited San Diego to check on America's investment in small businesses."Being here in San Diego and very vibrant market and thousands and thousands of small businesses benefited from the Paycheck Protection Program," Carranza said. One of those businesses is VetPowered and their non-profit Workshops for Warriors, which trains veterans in manufacturing. The company launched in 2008.More than 750 veterans have graduated and 95% of them have been placed in permanent jobs. "The SBA funding we received was a lifeline had we not received that funding we would have had to shut down operations and all the students that were here most of them would become homeless so thanks to these loans not only were we able to continue operations we’ve had two COVID graduations we’ve been able to put almost 100 graduates that I’ve been trained and certified in advanced manufacturing skills into the workforce and I am so thankful for their support," Hernán Luis y Prado, Founder and CEO of VetPowered and Workshops for Warriors.Carranza said negotiations for another round of PPP has been in negotiations for more than two months. She said there is 0 billion left in the fund and there should be more money added before the next round of loans comes out."I am so thankful and so encouraged to hear that so many small businesses applied the flat funds appropriately but that they’re actually planning on growth and adding employees not only replacing them," Carranza said.Carranza hopes to get more money to more small businesses after the election. 1627
