On World AIDS Day, a resurfaced photo on Facebook is reminding people of the impact the epidemic had on the LGBTQ community.An image posted by Paul Davis, identified on his Facebook and LinkedIn as the national advocacy coordinator for nonprofit Housing Works, has garnered more than 2,600 reactions and thousands of shares. The image shows a photo from 1993 by Eric Luse and was originally published in the San Francisco Chronicle.The photo in his post depicts the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus. Seven of the people in the photo are shown wearing white and the rest are in black. According to the caption accompanying the photo, and other articles, the people in white represented the remaining living members of the original choir and those in black represented those who were lost to AIDS at the time the photo was taken.Though 25 years old, the photo still resonates with people, as seen in the comments on Davis' post."I am a member of SFGMC and so is my husband," said one commenter, Michael Jay Stauffer Joyce. "If I remember this picture was taken in the early 90’s. I believe maybe 91, We did a Re-creation of the picture in the spring of 2018, we have a section of the course called the fifth section which is dedicated to all those who have passed that were members. (KGTV) - A nonprofit stopped in San Diego Thursday to thank veterans, 1,000 feet in the sky.The Ageless Aviation Dreams Foundation travels the country with their Boeing Stearman PT-17 biplane, an aircraft used for training during World War II.“In that plane, they’re 19, hot, and they’re rocking it!" said volunteer Lynn Sommars. "They come back and remember the person that’s been put away for some time.”Lynn's husband Mike also volunteers for the organization as a pilot.On Thursday Mike flew eight veterans who live at La Costa Glen, a senior living community in Carlsbad.One of the veterans they flew was Lloyd Anna, who logged nearly 5,000 flight miles during WWII, Korea, and Vietnam.“Oh man, I was in heaven, close to it anyway!" (KGTV) -- A 63 year old man is grateful to be alive Saturday night after his sailboat capsizes and he was left swimming for his survival.Andrea Aria was on a trip back from Catalina, “I’m alive for the grace of God. Aria sat down with 10 News and talked about the horrific details, “I didn’t even see the wave until I made the turn and it was too late it was up on me”. The wave tipped the boat, he tried holding on, “I let go and went back in the water and I went under the boat and the boat went over me once then twice and the propellers are going”.During that moment he didn’t realize the injuries he was getting, “I didn’t feel, the adrenaline the cold water the salt all I know I couldn’t move my fingers I knew my hands were messed up “. Two casts on his hands because doctors say, he cut tendons leaving his fingers unable to move. The propeller on his boat also gashed his foot leaving him with 28 stitches.He swam about a half mile to shore, “every two strokes I was getting hit with a wave and I’m submerging and I’m having trouble handling it” Aria tells us.He says just as he was about to give up, his foot hit the sand and he crawled his way to the beach, “I finally made it and there were two police men and they said someone called us must have been an angel”.Saturday night, Aria is thankful to be alive, but he’s now realizing just how much he lost, along with his boat, “the things that I need to function everyday, they’re gone, they’re all gone” he continued, “I’m really without anything at this moment”.He’s now left to depend solely on his faith, “it wasn’t my time, I guess when its your time its your time. On Saturday, a gunman stormed the Tree of Life Synagogue, killing 11 people in what the ADL called the deadliest attack ever on Jews in the United States.The horrific, hate-filled minutes were a raw manifestation of anger, division and anti-Semitism.But the response has been the opposite as faiths and cultures came together in grief and solidarity.Crowdfunding campaign "Muslims Unite for Pittsburgh Synagogue" has raised more than 5,000 to help the shooting victims."We wish to respond to evil with good, as our faith instructs us, and send a powerful message of compassion through action," the donation page says.The campaign is organized by the Muslim-American non-profits CelebrateMercy and MPower Change. It's hosted by LaunchGood, an online crowdfunding platform for the Muslim community.The campaign page invites all faiths to contribute, and the Islamic Center of Pittsburgh will work directly with the Tree of Life Synagogue to distribute the funds to the injured victims and grieving families."The Pittsburgh community is our family; what happens to one of us, is felt by us all."
