SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- When a car breaks down or a housing voucher falls just short, San Diegans can slip through existing safety nets and into homelessness. Supervisor Nathan Fletcher and members of the Regional Task Force on the Homeless announced a proposal Monday to address those shortfalls in traditional housing assistance through what’s called a “flex pool.”Based on models used in cities like Los Angeles and Chicago, the Flexible Funds for Housing Program would combine government and private funds, with fewer restrictions on who qualifies and how the money is used. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Wells Fargo Bank officials are offering a ,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for robbing three San Diego-area banks.The string of robberies started September 11 at the Wells Fargo Bank, located at 5522 Balboa Avenue in Clairemont, followed by a second theft October 6 at the branch located at 276 N. El Camino Real in Encinitas.In a release, FBI and the San Diego Violent Crimes Task Force officials said they believe that the same individual, described as a white male in his 50s-60s, is responsible for both robberies."In each robbery, the robber approached the teller and presented a note demanding money from the bank in a similar manner," said FBI special agent Davene Butler.Images from those robberies show the suspect wearing a hat and sunglasses. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Troops will soon arrive at several bases throughout San Diego County to provide support U.S. Customs and Border Protection as the migrant caravan approaches.According to the United States Northern Command, troops are being sent to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Camp Pendleton, Naval Air Facility El Centro, Naval Base Coronado, Naval Base San Diego and Naval Base Point Loma.The Pentagon confirmed Wednesday that as many as 7,000 troops are being deployed to three states for support, though President Donald Trump told reporters as many as 15,000 could be sent.According to ABC News, 15,000 is roughly the number of troops deployed to Afghanistan and three times the number in Iraq."As far as the caravan is concerned our military is out, we have about 5,000-8 (thousand), we'll go up to anywhere between 10 (thousand) and 15,000 military personnel on top of border patrol, ICE and everybody else on the border," Trump told reporters Wednesday.Related Stories 997

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Two more migrants were diagnosed with the flu in the county shelter downtown and one was sent to the hospital, according to Jose Alvarez Communications Specialist with the County of San Diego Communications Office.The flights have been landing at Lindbergh Field since May 14th, easing overcrowding in Texas detention centers.Border Patrol officials stated migrants are given a health screening in Texas before they travel to San Diego, and are screened again once they land.County Health officials stated a total of 31 migrants have been diagnosed with the flu since May 19, officials say. There they get another health screening and starting Thursday, everyone gets a mask and Tamiflu pill as a precaution to keep the sickness from spreading. The pill and a flu shot is offered to staff and volunteers at the shelter.As of Friday, extra nurses are coming into the shelter to check on the group and ensure no one else has come down with the flu.Those who are diagnosed go with their families to a hotel that has individual air units, so they don't spread the virus. They are educated on why they should stay in the room and, if they leave, what precautions to take so they don't infect others.Migrants in the shelter can come and go as they wish.Border Patrol stated migrants who exhibit flu-like symptoms are not allowed to fly and instead are given medical treatment in Texas.
