CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) – A stretch of Chula Vista’s famed Third Avenue will be closed every Sunday in August to allow for expanded outdoor dining and other activities, all while practicing social distancing.The Third Avenue Village Association announced that Third Avenue will be shut down to traffic from E Street through Center Street starting Sunday, Aug. 2.The cross streets of E Street, Davidson Street, and F Street will be open for vehicle traffic. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) — Sheriff's deputies were led on a wild chase through the South Bay Saturday, ending with a violent crash and three people injured, including a deputy.San Diego Sheriff's deputies were called to a report of a suspect burglarizing a vehicle in the area of 13th St. and Donax Ave. in Imperial Beach just before 10 a.m. When they arrived, the man took off and led deputies on a vehicle pursuit into San Ysidro.During the pursuit, deputies say the suspect hit a female driver on Dairy Mart Rd. before continuing northbound on Interstate 5, onto side streets in Chula Vista, and back onto NB I-5. At times, the driver reached speeds of 100 mph, deputies say.The woman was not injured, SDSO said.The pursuit came to an end when the suspect lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a bridge at the top of the H St. offramp. A deputy involved in the pursuit crashed into another vehicle at the top of the offramp as well. Both the deputy and that driver were taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.The crash was so intense, it rained vehicle wreckage on the freeway below and damaged a woman's windshield. Bridge railings and fencing were also damaged, SDSO said.The suspect fled on foot from the crash, heading down the H St. offramp and onto the shoulder of I-5 before deputies captured him. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries. 1393

Christiane Amanpour will officially replace Charlie Rose on PBS stations across the country.The move was made official at the public broadcaster's annual meeting on Tuesday. It has been in the works for five months, ever since PBS stations began replaying Amanpour's CNN International program.Those half-hour Amanpour rebroadcasts were an interim replacement for Rose's 11 p.m. talk show, which was cancelled last November after women came forward to accuse him of sexual harassment and misconduct.Now Amanpour is expanding to an hour, like Rose's show used to be. The show will have a new name, "Amanpour & Company," and a stable of regular contributors. The changes will take effect in July."I'm delighted to expand my role at PBS from interim to permanent along with this remarkable diversity of voices and views," Amanpour said. "Never has the time for exploring our world and America's place in it been so urgent."Her statement also alluded to Rose's exit and the reason for it: "I am also thrilled to be a female filling this role at this time!"The expansion was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter.Amanpour is CNN's chief international correspondent. CHULA VISTA (CNS) - A part-time Coronado High School basketball coach pleaded guilty today to a felony sex charge involving a 17-year-old female student.Jordan Tyler Bucklew, 34, remains out of custody on bail and is slated to be sentenced Dec. 22 following his plea to a felony count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor.He was charged in February with a felony count of digital penetration and three misdemeanor child molestation counts, which could have had him facing up to three years in state prison if convicted, but those charges were dismissed Tuesday in light of the plea.The Coronado Police Department received a report on Jan. 31 regarding ``an inappropriate relationship'' between the part-time coach and a teenage student, and Bucklew was arrested three days later.According to the original criminal complaint, the incidents took place between December 2019 and January of this year.When Bucklew was arrested, the Coronado Unified School District issued a statement saying the district ``takes such claims very seriously. When the allegations became known, the district followed policy and protocol including cooperation with Coronado Police Department to protect the safety and security of district students and staff.''Officials with Coronado High School and the school district did not immediately respond Tuesday to inquiries regarding Bucklew's employment status. 1397

(KGTV) – A 13-year-old boy was taken to the hospital after police said he was driving a SUV that rolled over at a Chula Vista rock quarry.Police said the incident happened at around 2 a.m. Wednesday in an area off Hard Rock Road, near Heritage Road.According to police, an SUV driven by the teen crashed through a gate at a rock quarry and then rolled over. Witnesses reported seeing several juveniles get out of the wreckage and run away from the scene.The 13-year-old driver remained with the SUV and was questioned by police before being transported to the hospital. It is unknown if the teen suffered any serious injuries.ABC 10News learned police launched a drone to search for the passengers but could not locate them.Police are trying to determine who owns the SUV, how the teen ended up behind the wheel, and if the vehicle was stolen. 871
