SEATTLE (AP) — A U.S. judge on Thursday blocked controversial Postal Service changes that have slowed mail nationwide. The judge called them “a politically motivated attack on the efficiency of the Postal Service” before the November election. SANTA ANA (CNS) - An Orange County pastor is due in a Santa Ana courtroom Monday on felony charges of molesting seven children ages 5 to 15.John Rodgers McFarland, who has been the head pastor at Orangethorpe United Methodist Church in Fullerton since 2014, was arrested on a warrant Thursday charging him with seven counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a minor younger than 14 and four counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a minor 14 to 15 years old.The 56-year-old Fullerton resident is accused of molesting the children between 2003 and 2017, according to the Orange County District Attorney's Office.McFarland, who's being held in the Orange County Jail in lieu of million bail, faces up to 179 years to life in prison if convicted, prosecutors said.RELATED: Pastor arrested by Escondido Police on suspicion of child molestationIn San Diego County, McFarland was arrested and charged in December with molesting a girl younger than 14 in Escondido between 2012 and 2013. SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) - A SWAT team was called to a San Marcos apartment complex Tuesday morning after a man suspected in a stabbing incident barricaded himself in an apartment unit.San Diego County Sheriff’s Department officials said deputies were called to an apartment complex in the 200 block of Knoll Road shortly before 2:30 a.m. in response to an argument that escalated into a stabbing.According to sheriff’s officials, deputies arrived to find a 49-year-old man with multiple stab wounds. The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.Officials did not immediately release additional details on the altercation.Responding deputies spotted a man believed to have been involved in the stabbing and attempted to make contact with him, but he ran into an apartment unit and barricaded himself.A SWAT unit surrounded the complex after the man refused to come out.At around 8:30 a.m., sheriff's officials said the man surrendered without incident and was taken into custody. SAN YSIDRO, Calif. (KGTV) -- San Diego Fire-Rescue is on scene of a brush fire burning in San Ysidro Monday afternoon. According to department spokeswoman Mónica Mu?oz, the fire sparked near State Route 905 west and Caliente Avenue in an area near San Ysidro High School. The fire burned about one and a half acres before the forward rate of spread was stopped. No structures were threatened and no one was injured, according to Mu?oz.Three San Diego Fire-Rescue engines and two federal fire brush engines and a helicopter team responded to the blaze. SAN ONOFRE (CNS) - Authorities Thursday were searching for a hit-and-run motorist who struck and killed a pedestrian on Interstate 5 in the far northern reaches of San Diego County.Dispatchers received a call shortly before 6:40 a.m. from a person who reported seeing a body off of southbound Interstate 5 just south of Cristianitos Road, California Highway Patrol Officer Kevin Smale said.Officers responded to the area and found a pedestrian lying near the highway, Smale said, adding that the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.No details about the victim or the vehicle involved were immediately available.Officers shut down the onramp from Cristianitos Road to southbound I-5 and the right two lanes of southbound I-5 north of Basilone Road to investigate the circumstances leading up to the crash.Anyone with information regarding the crash was asked to call the Oceanside CHP office at (760) 643-4300. 921
