SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Gov. Gavin Newsom on Thursday ordered a statewide "limited Stay at Home Order" for San Diego County and other counties in the state's COVID-19 purple tier.In a release on the governor’s website, the state’s curfew will take effect Saturday, Nov. 21. It will be from 10 p.m.-5 a.m.The curfew is set to expire on Dec. 21 at 5 a.m.The state said the restrictions are similar to the stay at home order issued in March.This time, however, the order only applies to counties in California's purple tier status under its COVID-19 reopening plan.Newsom said, “The virus is spreading at a pace we haven’t seen since the start of this pandemic and the next several days and weeks will be critical to stop the surge. We are sounding the alarm. It is crucial that we act to decrease transmission and slow hospitalizations before the death count surges. We’ve done it before and we must do it again."San Diego County Supervisor Greg Cox, in response to the statewide curfew, said, "Look, we know we all want to see this pandemic end. And believe me, we do too. But those who float the public health orders, those who refuse to use masks and facial coverings are just prolonging the misery."“Bottom line is, wear those damn masks out there. Socially distance. And the sooner we do that, the sooner we’re going to get through this crisis,” said San Diego County Sheriff Bill Gore.Gore says they are devoting four two-men deputy teams to work full time with county compliance officers.He says they are not going door-to-door but following up on complaints about businesses or entities violating public health orders. They will attempt voluntary compliance and education first. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Dozens of parents chanted "Too much, too soon," and " Protect our kids, protect our kids," before the school board meeting Tuesday evening. This is the the third time in less than one year that parents have shared their concerns about the district's Sexual Health Education Program (SHEP).  The district started teaching the program last year to students in sixth, eighth and high school following the state's passage of the California Healthy Youth Act.RELATED: Parents keep kids home to protest sex-ed programAshley Bever is a substitute teacher in the district and mom of two middle school students. She kept her kids home from school Tuesday in protest of the program that she calls too graphic. "I don't think you need to give kids more explicit content in order for them to make good choices. We just want it to be age appropriate," she said. "We don't think talking about oral, anal, and vaginal sex in the sixth grade is entirely appropriate or telling middle schoolers you can use a flavored condom."Other parents told the board the material promotes sexual experimentation and doesn't do enough to promote abstinence and pregnancy prevention. 　  "It's not about sex education, it's not about biological science, it's about promulgating and pushing a world view upon them. It's about sowing the seed of idea of gender confusion, gender dysphoria is what you're trying to promote," one parent told the board. District officials say students can opt out of the program with a note from their parent. They say less than one percent did so in 2017.The board maintains the program is state mandated, but attorney Dean Broyles with the National Center for the Law and Policy said that's not true. "There are only recommended curriculum, there are no mandated curriculum under the CA Healthy Youth Act because it's too new and a framework has not even been developed yet," said Broyles. Broyles told the board parents have been waiting almost a year for the public records that show how the curriculum was adopted. He told the board if they don't get the records soon, they'll go to court to fight for them.The board did not take any action on the issue. The item was not on the agenda. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - For families staying at the Ronald McDonald House, the coronavirus has made an already stressful time even more troubling."Absolutely," says Christie Kinghorn. Her daughter, Lexi, is getting treatment for Complex Regional Pain Syndrome at Rady Children's Hospital. They're living at the Ronald McDonald House for about a month."I know the coronavirus has been hard on everyone," she explains. "But to deal with significant medical issues and be seeking treatment out of state during a pandemic was very difficult."To help keep their guests safe, the Ronald McDonald House put in new protocols throughout the facility."We used to have a very busy facility with people coming in and out throughout the daytime," says President Chuck Day. "Now, we've focused on our two critical services - overnight stays for families who need us and meals."Day says the facility has fewer guests now, as fewer people are going to Rady's for treatment or elective procedures. Typically, the Ronald McDonald House has 56 families staying in it, with another 30 on a waiting list. Right now, they only have 25 families on the campus."The main thing was to make sure we knew about the family staying at the house, are they safe, have they had any instance of exposure to COVID anytime," says Day.Before anyone checks in, they have to have a negative result on a coronavirus test. Visitors and staff also get temperature checks and health screenings to look for symptoms every time they enter the building.Social distancing and mask-wearing are also strictly enforced.As for meal service, Day says the cafeteria is now offering grab-and-go meals to families staying on campus. No one is allowed to eat in the large communal dining area.For people who come by to get meals while they spend time at the hospital, the Ronald McDonald House has set up a cooler outside with bagged meals.But all the extra precaution takes extra funding. As part of National Nonprofit Day on August 17, the Ronald McDonald House will match donations, up to 5,000. They also have a wish list of supplies set up on Amazon and their website."We went out and asked people who love us, 'Would you help us?' And they said, 'Yes.' SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Democrats' 5-4 majority on the technically nonpartisan San Diego City Council will increase to 6-3, a majority immune to Mayor Kevin Faulconer's veto.Democrat physician Jennifer Campbell defeated Republican incumbent District 2 City Councilwoman Lorie Zapf, winning 56 percent to 44 percent.  The subtraction of one Republican could have a major impact in terms of the balance of power.
