SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Students at Gompers Preparatory Academy were evacuated following a threat the school said it received Monday. San Diego Police say they received a call around 3:50 p.m. after someone reportedly left a voicemail on an administrative line at the school, making a vague bomb threat. A staff member at the school pulled a fire alarm, initiating the evacuation. "GPA received a telephonic threat after school today and the campus has been evacuated," the school said in an Instagram post. According to authorities, the students were evacuated to a nearby park. Roughly 80 students were still on campus along with 30 to 35 staff members. Police arrived and used a K9 to comb through the school, but found no trace of a bomb. An investigation is underway to determine who left the voicemail. Today was the first day students returned to class at the academy. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- School superintendents from South Bay, Cajon Valley, Escondido and Chula Vista Elementary came together for a virtual roundtable Wednesday. The meeting comes days after Governor Gavin Newsom released a mandate saying students can only return to campus when the county has been off the state’s watchlist for two weeks.The discussion focused on tackling challenges for the upcoming school year. All four districts say one of the main issues is a lack of funding.“I listened to the governor speaking about how money has come to school districts,” said Dr. Katie McNamara, superintendent of South Bay Union School District. “It’s good to note that none of that money has arrived yet.”She says they’ve had to dip into the district’s general funds to pay for things like PPE and improving distance learning models.Cajon Valley reopened in-person summer programs last week and say they will be staying open.The County Office of Education says the governor’s order does not apply to camps or day cares.“We have almost 5,000 students on campus, today, right now in a version of summer school that we're calling child care.”The Chula Vista Elementary Union superintendent, Dr. Francisco Escobdedo says they’re paying close attention to testing.“In order for us to feel safe our contagion levels have to lower, the curve has to plateau.”Escobedo adds they’re working on providing more internet hot spots for families who need it. 1446

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Sky10 was there as police and firefighters responded to a car crash in San Carlos Friday evening. The crash, which happened just after 5:30 p.m., happened in the 6200 block of Del Paso Avenue, not far from Patrick Henry High School. The female driver hit the gas pedal instead of the brake when approaching the garage door, police said. She hit the washer and dryer, pushing them through the wall and into the house. The driver and occupants of the home were not injured in the crash. Firefighters helped pull down the garage door and advised the family to have a structural expert check the walls where the washer and dryer pushed through.   700

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Senior citizens in Chula Vista lit up the runway at St. Paul's Plaza, a senior living community.It was the center's first fashion show and eight residents were transformed into models. Each had makeup, hair, and wardrobe provided thanks to Macy's. “Today’s fashion show is all about friendships," said Mary Johnson with the community outreach team. "Friendships are just as important as taking good care of yourself, exercising, and good nutrition. As we get older friendships get even more important."Ladies who modeled said the day made them feel special and confident. “A lot of people when they get to be our age don’t want to do anything different. But I still want to do different things!" said model and resident Nancy Curcio. St. Paul's Plaza is an aging in place community, offering independent, assisted, and memory support. 861
