BARNEGAT LIGHTHOUSE STATE PARK, N.J. — A dead whale is sitting on a New Jersey state park beach after a Christmas storm blew through the northeast.The humpback whale is near Barnegat Lighthouse State Park in Ocean County. It is unclear at this time how the roughly 20-foot-long whale died, according to the Marine Mammal Stranding Center, a marine animal focused organization that responded to the whale Saturday. They said it could have been hit by a boat or something else during the storm, or died from contracting a disease. BONSALL, Calif. (KGTV) - A Marine Corps helicopter made a “precautionary” landing near the I-15 freeway and Highway 76 near Bonsall Monday afternoon. A spokesperson for the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing said the crew of the CH-53E Super Stallion noticed an indicator light in the cockpit signaling a generator had failed. Around 3:30 p.m. the helicopter landed safely in a field on the west side of I-15, north of highway 76. No one was injured, according to a MAW spokesperson. BATON ROUGE, La. — The governing council in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, has again rejected a proposed million settlement in a lawsuit over the death of Alton Sterling, a Black man fatally shot by a white police officer in 2016. The 12-member East Baton Rouge Metro Council fell one vote short of the seven needed for approval Wednesday. It was the council's third rejection of a possible settlement, and it makes a March 2021 trial more likely in the wrongful death lawsuit filed on behalf of Sterling's five children. BONITA (KGTV) -- A woman died after being shot in Bonita Saturday night, according to officials with the Sheriff’s Department.It happened around 7:45 p.m. Saturday night on the 5100 block of Cedarwood Road near the Bonita Cedars Apartments. Deputies learned there was a fight between several women in the parking lot of the apartment complex. That's where the victim was found. A sheriff’s official says the victim was transported to a local hospital, where she died. A spokesperson originally said the victim was 16-years-old, but now they say she was an adult.
