(KGTV) -- Some North County students of color are sharing their experiences of racism anonymously in an Instagram page called "Black in PUSD."The social media account is described as "a safe space for current and graduated students in Poway Unified School District to anonymously share their experiences with racism.""We were originally inspired to start this during the Black Lives Matter movement, we thought it was a good idea to showcase the black experience in our community," said one of the page creators. The creators want to remain anonymous so they aren't targeted, but they shared with ABC 10News their encounters with racism."A girl once told me her father interrogated her after seeing us walking together, and he asked her who I was, why she was speaking to me, and if she was safe," one person on the page said.The page has more than 3,600 followers and dozens of posts. But the creators want to do more than bring awareness."In bringing awareness to these issues, we can create a more inclusive environment through better education," the creators said. "And just overall changing up the curriculum, so students understand the history of what people of color had had to face."In addition, they said they wanted to see more diversity in the staff and faculty. On Thursday, the school board is set to vote on an anti-racism resolution, something the district says was already in the works."In it, there's a commitment from PUSD to have more diverse staffing, increases expanded anti-bias training not just for students but all staff," said Christine Paik, chief communications officer at Poway Unified.Paik also encourages students to report incidents involving staff or peers."That way, we can actually follow up, investigate and get back to the complainant in terms of what we were able to do," she said. 1841

This year, the political fact-checking website, picked the online smear campaign against the Parkland students after the deadly school shooting in Florida.Gina Montalto, 14, was one of the students killed during the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. For her family, this will be the first Christmas without her.“It is by far the toughest,” says her father, Tony Montalto. “Gina loved the holiday season. She loved decorating for Christmas.”Seventeen families lost loved ones in the shooting. But not even a tragedy involving children stopped online trolls from starting conspiracy theories that falsely accused students of being “crisis actors.” Others claimed the teens had secretly organized before the shooting.“We are not actors,” says Montalto. “We are not politically driven. POWAY, Calif. (KGTV) -- A man who went missing from Poway Saturday night has been found safe. Authorities said Sunday morning that 84-year-old Orlando H. Lugo was last seen around 10:30 p.m. Saturday night. Lugo suffers from memory loss.He was later spotted around 9:20 a.m. walking along the side of southbound Interstate 15 near Scripps Poway Parkway. He has previously walked from Poway to Mira Mesa and Escondido. POLK COUNTY, Fla. — Deputies in Polk County, Florida are on the hunt for the man who allegedly pushed a woman out of a moving vehicle at over 75 miles per hour.Deputies say Remond Brown, 44, and his girlfriend got into an argument at dinner because she was on Facebook.According to deputies, the argument continued while the two were driving back to Pinellas Park. They say things turned physical, and that Brown slapped and punched the victim, with a closed fist, multiple times on the face.Witnesses in other vehicles advised that the suspect vehicle was driving erratically westbound on Highway 60 in Lake Wales. That's when deputies say Brown reached over and opened the victim's door and pushed her out of the car while traveling at highway speeds, approximately 75-80 mph, per the witness accounts.Two witnesses stopped to helped the victim."Other travelers on the road stopped to help the victim, but not Remond," the Polk County Sheriff's office said on Facebook. "He did stop, but only to look back at the victim and yell, 'Blank this blank', before getting back into the car, and driving off. And no, 'blank' was not the word he used."Deputies said the victim was clearly distraught and made multiple statements to the witnesses that "he was going to kill me, he is going to kill me, don't leave me he will kill me." Brown left the scene in the victim's Black 2017 Honda Accord. The vehicle has a Florida license plate with tag number 717TDH. Brown is approximately 5-foot-4-inches tall and weighs roughly 170 pounds.Deputies say that there is a history of physical violence and Brown has a history of run-ins with the law, ranging from charges of grand theft to murder.The Polk County Sheriff's Office has issued a warrant for his arrest with charges of 2nd Degree Attempted Murder, Battery (Domestic Violence), Violation of an Injunction, and Grand Theft Motor Vehicle pending.  1948
