The S&P 500 also hit a closing high milestone of its own Thursday, a day after its first move above 3,000.Steep losses in drugmakers and real estate companies were offset by gains for banks and technology companies.Nvidia climbed 3.9% and Goldman Sachs rose 2.6%.Pharmaceutical makers dropped after the White House scrapped a plan to overhaul a system of rebates those companies pay to insurers and distributors.Bond yields spiked following weak demand at an auction for 30-year Treasurys.The S&P 500 rose 6 points, or 0.2%, to 2,999.The Dow rose 227 points, or 0.8%, to 27,088. NEW YORK – A New York City police officer was among the several people arrested in connection to a drug trafficking bust, officials announced Monday.NYPD officer Amaury Abreu and two other men, Julia Bautista and Gustavo Valerio, are accused of conspiring to import and distribute cocaine.The three men were allegedly members of a multinational drug trafficking organization with distributors in the New York area and the Dominican Republic between January 2016 and October 2020.Bautista, 35, and Valerio, 38, were high-ranking members of the organization based in New York and were responsible for distributing and overseeing the distribution of cocaine once it was in New York, according to the federal complaint.Abreu, 34, allegedly used his position as a police officer and provided information about law enforcement procedures, performing warrant checks on DTO members, on at least one instance, distributed cocaine for the group.Officials said Abreu pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on a million bond with home detention as a condition of the bond.Two other men face changes in connection to the bust. Cesar Diaz-Bautista, 43, faces charges of possession with the intent to distribute cocaine, while Junior Ortiz, 29, faces charges of cocaine importation conspiracy.Ortiz was released on a 0,000 bond and Diaz-Bautista will be released on a 0,000 bond, officials said.The other two defendants had not yet been arraigned Monday.Since 2016, law enforcement agents have seized more than 350 kilograms of cocaine belonging to the DTO.“This criminal network allegedly trafficked more than 350 kilos of cocaine and was assisted by an NYPD officer, who used his knowledge and access to help them stay one step ahead of the law,” stated District Attorney Madeline Singas.“There is no place for corruption in the NYPD and it will always be prosecuted fully. NEW YORK CITY — New York City Deputy Sheriffs shut down an event with more than 200 people at a Queens banquet hall early Saturday.Authorities were called to an event at the Queens Luxe Banquet Hall at Rockaway Boulevard in Ozone Park around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday morning.There were about 215 people inside the venue in violation of the state's and city's COVID-19 emergency orders.The hall was also operating without a liquor license, according to authorities.The owner and an employee of the venue were issued summonses for violation of emergency orders, unlicensed sale of alcohol and unlicensed warehousing of alcohol. Two other staffers were issued summonses for violation of emergency orders.New York City currently allows indoor entertainment locations to operate at a 25% capacity if they do not fall under one of the city's restriction zones. NEW YORK CITY — Police say they have arrested a man after he allegedly pushed a woman onto subway tracks as a train was arriving at the Union Square station Thursday morning.The NYPD said a call came in just before 8:30 a.m. local time after a woman was shoved off the subway platform and onto the tracks of the No. 4, 5 and 6 subway lines.Surveillance video shows the suspect waiting and then suddenly push the woman, 40, onto the tracks in front of the oncoming train.The FDNY rushed to the scene and helped the victim off the tracks, while a New York City Transit platform controller subdued the suspect, holding him down until police arrived, authorities said.The woman was taken to a nearby hospital and only suffered minor injuries, authorities said.NYPD Chief of Transit Kathleen O'Reilly said on Twitter that "charges are forthcoming and this case will be prosecuted to the fullest extent."The incident caused delays and service impacts along the No. 4? and ?5? train lines, the MTA said. 1004
