NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Buck McCoy is just one of many survivors from Nashville's Christmas explosion. Friday night he stayed at a friend's house but said he's not sure what's left of his Lofts at 160 home."About 5:30 or so I heard some gunshots - it sounded like four or five, maybe six gunshots. I looked out the window and didn't see anything," said McCoy. That's when he went back to bed, a decision he believes saved his life."Within maybe ten minutes of that a huge explosion, which completely ripped the walls apart of my house, stuff was coming down on me, there was dust everywhere," McCoy said.He got out of bed to find his face and hands bleeding from broken glass and debris. "You know I was looking out the window just ten minutes before the whole explosion, so if I had picked that moment where it exploded to be looking out the window, I feel very lucky on this Christmas to be here. It was that close," he said.McCoy managed to capture cell phone video immediately after the blast as people desperately looked for safety. "I was really thinking that there was some kind of a war going on and that this could be something that I wouldn't get through, that I would not make it through," McCoy said.He eventually walked to a friend's house where he has been staying ever since. McCoy said at one point he did go back home to look for his cat but firemen sent him away. More than 200 small earthquakes peppered California's Imperial Valley on Wednesday night and Thursday morning.The USGS reports that 240 small earthquakes occurred near Westmorland, California, between 4 p.m. local time Wednesday evening into 8 p.m. local time Thursday morning. Most of the quakes measure about magnitude 3.0, with the largest being a magnitude 4.9 quake.The seismic activity continued into Thursday morning, as dozens more small earthquakes occurred in what the USGS calls the "Brawley seismic zone." Dr. Lucy Jones, a seismologist, founder & chief scientist at her center, said it is one of the largest swarms ever seen in the Imperial Valley — and it is historically one of the most active swarms in Southern California. According to the USGS, the area also saw earthquake swarms in 1981 (which included a magnitude 5.8 quake) and in 2012 (which included a magnitude 5.4 quake).The USGS reports that the earthquake swarm will continue to produce small earthquakes over the next seven days, and while there may be a few moderately-sized earthquakes up to magnitude 5.4, the system will eventually peter out.A second less likely scenario laid out by the USGS indicates that a large earthquake between magnitudes 5.5 and 6.9 is possible. A third — and least likely — scenario indicates that an enormous earthquake of magnitude 7.0+ could happen, which would cause "serious" impacts on nearby communities.Luckily, Jones said the earthquake swarm is too far away to have an impact on the dangerous San Andreas."The swarm happening now south of the Salton Sea, near Westmorland is over 30 km south of the end of the San Andreas," she tweeted. "It is in the Brawley seismic zone, a common source of swarms. So far largest is M4.4. Too far from the San Andreas to change the probability of a quake on it." 1828

More than 10,000 pounds of chicken is being recalled due to possible contamination by "foreign materials," specifically metal.  Empire Kosher Poultry Inc. says the raw chicken breasts were packaged on November 2 and have the number "P-1015" in the USDA inspection mark. NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A Nashville restaurant held a socially-distanced, drive-in comedy show on Wednesday.The show was at Daddy's Dogs location in The Nations. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the restaurant has held music concerts to bring more people to the shop."It was a big shift for us to go basically to a full restaurant, instead of doing our carts and going to the people, so we knew we had to do something to make some waves and make people know that we're here," Daddy's Dogs owner Sean Porter said.But on Wednesday night, the parking lot performance shifted gears from music to comedy."I'm really excited about this, it's a little different than what we've done in the past," Porter said. "As far as I know there really hasn't been a big drive-in comedy show so there's a first for everything!"A few dozen carloads of people poured into the restaurant's parking lot for the show, flashing their lights and honking for the lineup of local comedians to take the place of laughter."This is just something that's nice that lets people feel safe, they're in their own space, and give them an outlet to not think about whats going on in the world," Porter said. "I think it's just something everybody needs right now."The concert series at Daddy's Dogs runs through the end of October.
