SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — California officials said Friday that a technical glitch caused data on hundreds of thousands of COVID-19 tests to go unreported.Despite the inaccurate data, officials say they are still seeing a trend showing a decrease in case rates. Hospitalization and death data, however, is collected differently and unaffected by the glitch.According to the state, the data system they use failed and that led to inaccurate case numbers and case positivity rates. That failure prevented counties from having some of the data they need to monitor and respond to the virus in local communities, like contact tracing.The state says that about two weeks ago, a server outage created a delay in lab records coming into the reporting system. At the same time, they realized they weren't getting data from one of the largest commercial reporting labs for about five days.California Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Dr. Mark Ghaly says the issues have been fixed."We expect that over the next 24 to 48 hours that the backlog that's between 250,000 to 300,000 cases will be resolved, giving us a better sense of the number of tests that were delayed," Ghaly told reporters on Friday. "We are reporting this data to the counties based on the date the specimen was collected so we can attribute it to the appropriate date."The state says the system was not built for the volume of data it's receiving. It's putting new systems in place and has created a backup system to double-check the data and reports.California's County Monitoring Watch List was paused last week so that the glitch does not play a role in decision making about county statuses.Gov. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Crews battled flames from two house fires that sprang up overnight in San Diego.The first fire was reported in City Heights at about 3 a.m. Crews responded to a home in the 4000 block of 42nd Street engulfed in flames.One person made it out of the home safely and surrounding neighbors were temporarily evacuated as a precaution. Neighbors say the homeowner was not inside when the fire broke out. It took about 30 minutes to knock the fire down and no injuries were reported.San Diego Fire Department said Metro Arson Strike Team determined the fire was intentionally set. The blaze caused an estimated 0,000 in total damages.No arrests have been made.Fire crews also doused a fire in Encanto at an abandoned home near 66th St. and Madera St. The home's doors and windows were boarded up and transients frequented the property, according to fire crews.No injuries were reported in that fire as well. 955

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- California state officials have issued their COVID-19 guidelines for gathering during the holidays. With less than two weeks until Thanksgiving, the guidelines include things like physical distancing and wearing a mask when not eating or drinking. There are specific guidelines for counties in the purple tier, like San Diego County. Counties in the purple tier are required to gather outdoors. Health officials recommend no more than three households and limiting the gathering to two hours or less. Infectious disease specialists say the guidelines are strict, but necessary to slow the spread of the virus. Other recommendations include having guests frequently wash their hands and having only one person serve food and beverages, with a mask on. Older and at-risk individuals are advised not to attend.
